Legislators in Maryland want to turn the lights out on the NSA — literally. A bill introduced last Thursday to its House of Delegates would bar state agencies, utilities, and pretty much anything that receives state funds from providing assistance to federal agencies that collect electronic data or metadata without a specific warrant to do so. Namely, the delegates are thinking of the National Security Agency, which is headquartered just outside their state's capital.
Further along:
Smigiel, chair of the Tea Party caucus in Maryland's House, introduced the legislation, known as the Fourth Amendment Protection Act, along with seven other Republican sponsors. At a minimum, their goal is to get legislators discussing the federal government's accountability. "I'm hoping it is a reminder to all elected officials that we don't owe an allegiance to the federal government, we owe an allegiance to the Constitution," Smigiel says. "We don't need people in office who are going to help the federal government violate our constitutional rights."
I find it funny to see a very liberal site such as The Verge jumping on a bandwagon with the Tea Party, but I also think it's great. If enough support is given this might happen.

Stories like these demonstrate how much both sides of the aisle actually have in common. Genuine conservatives and progressives both agree that our civil liberties are not expendable. Unfortunately, our government is led by establishment shills and corporate hacks whose only real loyalty is the power establishment and campaign funds.

You think it's great? Welcome to the NSA's naughty list Progo, population: ^system ^error/$:/_^could_not_compute/

I think Sen Paul just announced he's suing Obama and the NSA, too.
Tea Party
Are they the English ambassadors or something?

The guy's name is Smigiel =/= smeagol. He wants the precious NSA to himself.
-
lol, this isn't going to happen.
-
Seems too good to be true. I'm guessing there's also a malicious bill somehow paperclip'd to this as well.

So, they want to completely shut down the NSA in Maryland, including the headquarters? Yeah, -blam!- national security!
-
It probably states in the bill that all blacks will be massacred as well.

Not sure what to think about this. The bill sounds good, but how much Tea Party crap have they hidden in it? Cautiously optimistic at this point.
-
It's sad we're worrying about bills rather than holding them all accountable and having them in prison for treason.
-
Considering the number of people on both sides of the aisle involved in this (which I'm all for), I don't think it's fair to call this a Tea Party thing.

Pretty good.
