Simple question, we are getting more advanced in technology and everyday people are getting more access to internet day by day. I'm not saying the government should pay for Google Fiber type of speeds, but something basic that everyone can use, like 7mbps. Would this be worth it? Opinions?
Edit: all of your arguments are invalid, Kinder says we all get porn access.
-
No that means more taxes for the rich and middle class
-
Do they want the apococlypse to come sooner? Then don't pay for internet, let it collapse in on itself.
-
No but they should regulate it so smaller ISPs can compete with the larger companies. Its sad when mom and pop ISPs can charge a smaller fee for true unlimited internet while larger companies charge more for "Unlimited*" Then the big companies have the gull to try to pass bills that would eliminate small business owners. *300gb/month cap
-
Doesn't google offer 3mbs for free if you pay to have the fiber installed?
-
something basic that everyone can use, like 7mbps
That's better than the basic plans Bell, Telus, and Rogers have.
-
Yeah I mean it's a simple base luxury But then again you can make the government pay for everything using this logiv
-
No, I don't want to pay for Sha-nay-nays internet
-
i think that basic internet should be available to all people, kinda like basic tv and radio stations. make dial-up speeds free for everyone. at least they could send emails and get important news.

Edited by KingWhovian: 2/12/2014 2:24:46 AMIs it absolutely necessary for survival? Then no.

Seviper

Who do you think already pays for the government?

No. - Der
-
No. It's an extreme luxury.
-
lolno
-
No, because by keeping it in the private sector, there is no reason for any Government to justify spying on all of it's citizens.
-
In my mind, I categorize Internet access with utilities like water and electricity, which the government also doesn't provide for us and are much more essential than it. So no.
-
Certain cities in Cali are getting city wide free wifi so maybe. But then again I like having my privacy and good internet
-
Move to that Scandinavian country that has a law where everyone has a right to have internet.
-
no. Internet is not a right, nor should it be.
-
Edited by Madman Mordo: 2/11/2014 5:48:29 PMNo. I only approve of government subsidies if they actually help people to basically survive. The Internet is a luxury item, so why should I have to pay for you to play Candy Crush?
-
-
No. The government shouldn't be paying for anything private like that. If you want internet, get a job. If you want free internet access, go to your local library.
-
I wish.
-
Nah internet has become very easy to access and cheap. Once Google fiber goes world wide everyone can get unlimited internet for a one off payment of $300.
-
No, the government shouldn't be spending anything in the first place, there's no need to add to the list. Political biases aside - still no. If you're taxing everybody to pay for everybody's internet, what's the point?
-
Or just move to Korea.
