I found this warning for "Dihydrogen Monoxide" while searching the Internet as part of my Chemistry project. It's just an example of one of the many chemicals we expose ourselves to on a day to day basis.
Dihydrogen Monoxide:
- Called "hydroxyl acid", the substance is the major component of acid rain.
- Contributes to the "greenhouse effect".
- May cause severe burns.
- Fatal if inhaled.
- Contributes to the erosion of our natural landscape.
- Accelerates corrosion and rusting of many metals.
- May cause electrical failures and decreased effectiveness of automobile brakes.
- Has been found in excised tumors of terminal cancer patients.
Despite the danger, Dihydrogen Monoxide is often used:
- As an industrial solvent and coolant.
- In nuclear power plants.
- In the production of Styrofoam.
- As a fire retardant.
- In many forms of cruel animal research.
- In the distribution of pesticides. Even after washing, product remains contaminated by this chemical.
- As an additive in certain "junk-foods" and other food products.
Why do we let ourselves around these harmful chemicals?

My physics teacher in high school pulled this on us. He had a pretty great addition about it being found in the melting polar ice caps at fantastically high concentrations. Funny thing is he didn't explain the joke to us at the end of class, and when we came back two days later he asked how many people we told, and then used the whole thing as an example of how scaremongering works.
-
It's also a breeding ground for bacteria.

Edited by BrenMan 94: 2/11/2014 12:40:41 AMBecause we're not complete dumbasses. Although, everyone who has ever been around H2O has died.
-
Usually people don't mind going around deadly chemicals to get things done.
Unless you're some kinda pussy.
-
Yes, someone will always fall for it.
-
Hehehe
-
How else you going to keep population down?
-
Toasting in quality bread.
-
Because it gives birth to superheros duh.
