In Bungie's previous Halo games, a regular theme, intended or not, was the ability to spawn trap the opposing team. For one I find this a very rewarding experience that shows how much dominance one team has on the match. Do you guys feel it should have a place in Destiny?
Obviously it is not something that comes easily, especially in matches where two teams are even skill wise, so it wouldn't be the way to play every game. The way I see it, if you have all the power weapons (or ammo, in Destiny's case), and have all the choke points on the map on lock-down, pushing your advantage and putting the enemy team into a "spawn trap" isn't a bad thing.
Some people see it as unsporting, but if you were put into that position more than a bit of bad luck led to the current scenario.

What would Jesus do? Come back and glock you with the Halo CE pistol because you spawn killed him.
-
No,I've had enough of that shit in Halo grifball, and I don't want to see it in Destiny
-
If you push a team into being trapped, then back off and give them a chance. Some people say they deserve this because those playing dont work together as a team. That may be so, but some players are solo because they feel being around other players on the map impedes their preferred playstyle. I personally play solo most of the time since I find myself being significantly less effective in a group. Other times people at put into these traps due to unfamiliarity with the game, I.e. maybe they have been playing another game for awhile and are out of practice. But to the point, give them a real chance to fight back and not just some small spawn area where two nades clears them all out.

Pushing into someone's spawn to catch them off-guard is a viable tactic. However, trapping them there and murdering them before they can get their bearings is an atrocity reserved for the most passionate and desperate of wars, not for a game intended to be fun. If you want to have a good time, and have a shred of empathy to want the same for your fellow gamers, then you'll back off, or hope that Bungie uses some sort of dynamic spawn system.
-
Eh, if you get your team gets itself stuck in that position, you probably deserve it.
-
You must be 12 and i hate you. And no spawn killing is -blam!- slutty and stupid. P.s I hope you're trolling.
-
Just another reason to hate PvP. You sirrah sicken me with your cheap, un-chivalrous, nay unmanly tactics. One more for the in game block list.. Bet you like hiding in shrubbery too... And an advocate of prone no doubt... Raises left eyebrow in a disapproving manner.
-
A person waiting to spawn is not playing. You are basically shooting a non combatant, and calling it skill. Sure it may have taken skill to get the position, but then the other team can't apply their skills, meaning they are no longer capable of playing, meaning the game may as well just end at that point, rather than make one team watch a respawn countdown. Would you rather beat them in head to head combat, or by shooting defenseless stationary targets? Shoot paper targets if you like spawn killing so much.
-
nah, not worth it.
-
I don't think any games intend to have spawn traps. Spawn trapping is lame. no one wants to spawn in a game and die immediately. Where is the fun in that? Maybe try playing some king of the hill type game modes. I feel much more rewarding holding down an area on the map rather than spawn trapping some noobz.
-
i think its up to the game to not allow abuse.

Spawn killing is pretty cheap. If there are multiple spawnpoints like bf4 it's fine but if there is one it's cheap
-
Simply make the spawning system very simple start off with a 4 second invincibility buff and make the spawns depend on an enemies location
-
Spawn shouldn't be open so right when you pop up you get a bullet in the brain...
-
I hate spawn killing its cheap and pathetic
-
Spawn trapping is only a viable tool of people who aren't that good and would loose in a "fair fight". It's pretty easy to look at one small part of the map and shoot people who don't know where you are. If you're good at a game, you don't need to exploit the game to win.
-
Well with the layouts,
spacemagic
, and gear of each player being individual and unique or at least more so then Halo, its safe to say that multiplayer won't quite play the same way. Its been discussed in The Podcast that a lot of effort is being put in to make it so there is a sort of rock/paper/scissors mentality to the three classes, each one being able to exploit the flaws of others. So no, don't feel that spawn camping/killing will be a central tactic.
-
The spawning system in Destiny might make spawn killing impossible depending on how big the maps are and how many spawn points there are. The game might make you spawn away from everyone else so you have to run to the battle.
-
It's annoying, but that's only the receiving end of it.
-
It depends if the person who is being spawn killed an actually find a way to get away or kill their spawn killer or killers. No one likes to be trapped in one spot for the whole game because there is literally no way to get out of it.
-
Absolutely not! Spawn killing is cheap. I understand that sometimes it can happen but allowing to be what it has become especially in CoD games is poor. I really hope the Bungie can make a better spawn system than most FPS games have now...

Edited by LotsaJam: 2/8/2014 12:49:21 AMIt doesn't make gameplay fun for either team
-
I agree that if you're being spawn camped, your team has done something wrong, but it should not be designed in the maps to make spawn camping easy. It's a rewarding experience for the team that is winning in terms of they get lots of exp. For the losing team, they walk out, get killed, respawn. Rinse, repeat. And shouldn't a victory be a showing of enough dominance? You don't need to spawn camp the other team to the point that people get tired of it and quit.
-
Of course it should. It's your own damn fault if you lost map control.
