Prologue: Some were born to kill...others were made.
There we were, living in our own private house, outside the city, our dream come true. It was against regulations, we knew the risk, but to live in a place that war hadn't touched. It was a house in a meadow full of flowers and green grass, surrounded by trees. A breeze was blowing through the open window; I could feel it on my face. The house was quiet, at first, and then a cry from our new born could be heard. My wife, Eleanor, rolled over to look at me, a light in her eyes. She began to speak:
"Alec," She began to say.
Then the dream ends, I awaken to find myself staring at a white ceiling and lights beaming down on me. I try to move....nothing. Figured I must be recovering from surgery, typical, but no I.V. or heart monitor? I hate needles, where’s a nurse?
"Hey!" Alec yells, hearing his not-so-normal voice. "What the heck's wrong with my voice?"
A nurse enters.
"Hello," The nurse starts. "The doctor will be here shortly."
"What happened to me?" Alec asked.
"You've had an opportunity of a life time!" Exclaims the doctor as he enters the room, a smile on his face.
"Why can't I move?" Alec asked.
The doctor stands to the left of Alec, looking him over with a grin.
"Questions, questions, questions," The doctor responded. "All will be made clear in due time."
Alec wasn't amused, He struggled to get up.
"Calm down, sir." The nurse said, politely.
Alec began to struggle violently.
"Let me out now!" Alec yelled.
"Security," Yelled the doctor. "We need security in here now! More than one, this time you fool!"
Three security droids enter, attempting to restrain Alec, only to be shoved back. Alec had stood up and got off the table. Looking down, he saw a metal exo-skeleton: Arms, legs, chest, etc. He found himself fight the droids off with strength he never had before. However, Alec also felt a fury, deep within, an uncontrollable rage. The droids in shambles, he grabbed the nurse, wrapping his left hand around her neck.
"No," The nurse screamed. "Please, don't!"
Alec could see the fear in his eyes, he knew this fear, he'd seen it before...
Two more droids appeared, but with a man this time.
"Alec," The man shouted. "Do not do it! Put her down and follow me."
The man’s voice was calming, it seemed familiar. Alec put the nurse down, apologizing about his behavior. He followed the man down a hall way into a room; he walked in and sat in a chair up against a wall. The doctor walked in, putting dog tags around Alec’s neck and said:
"Now that, that is over," the doctor began. "Let’s take a blood sample."
The doctor inspected Alecs left arm for a port to insert needle. The man who had stopped Alec’s rampage stood outside, waiting.
"Aaaaaand, were done." The doctor said.
The Doctor left the room, stopping to speak the man. The man entered the room holding a grey box.
"Hello," The man started. "You may not remember me, but, I know you Alec, Alec Blackwater. You've gone through an experimental Exo program, that's all I know. In this box, are possessions of yours, to help you regain your memory, over time."
The man set the box down on a table in front of Alec, and got up to leave.
"Who are you?" Alec asked.
The man turned around, with tears in his eyes. He spoke briefly:
"I was the one who raised you, educated you, taught you right from wrong, how to survive and introduced you to the Bible."
Alec looked at the box.
"The box holds many answers," The man said. "Never forget who you are."
With that, he was gone. Alec looked at the box, wanting to open it...
"No time for that, Wall-E," Said a gruff voice in the door way. "Now we get down to business."
"One day...” Alec thought to himself. He looked up at the man, noticing his military fatigues and a nasty scar on his face. Alec got up and looked in a mirror on the wall, seeing his new face...a face of metal with dark, yet blue eyes. Surely, they'd give him a prosthetic face, to blend in.
"Ready to get started, rookie, or would you rather lie back down?" Asked the Guardian
Alec turned to face him, walked over to him, he was a good foot taller that the man.
"I am Alec Blackwater," Alec began to say. "And for reasons beyond my control, I have lived to fight again, to protect the inhabitants of this city. And by the mercy granted to me by God, I will continue to do so until the day I die."
"There isn’t any “god” here." said the man.
"He's busy protecting other Guardians," Alec said. "So he sent me."
