Marriage has not been a Religious freedom in 120 years (Mormons banned polygamy in 1890). Its a Civil institution allowing two people to combine their assets to be taxed as a whole rather then have two incomes and two sets of assets being taxed separately. Married couples enjoy many legal benefits other then things dealing with taxes as well. And with the church and state being wholly separate in the eyes of the constitutions of the (EU, USA, insert rational country here), there is no religious freedom being broken. Simply civil benefits being withheld because everyone is different.
