Can a man legally have more than one wife?
Islam allows it's men to take multiple wives. If this is not legal, then freedom of religion us not being upheld.

Marriage has not been a Religious freedom in 120 years (Mormons banned polygamy in 1890). Its a Civil institution allowing two people to combine their assets to be taxed as a whole rather then have two incomes and two sets of assets being taxed separately. Married couples enjoy many legal benefits other then things dealing with taxes as well. And with the church and state being wholly separate in the eyes of the constitutions of the (EU, USA, insert rational country here), there is no religious freedom being broken. Simply civil benefits being withheld because everyone is different.

When DOMA was in effect, polygamy was actually possible, but not necessarily straight polygamy. Someone could get gay married in a state that recognized it; because the federal government didn't recognize that marriage, one could then get straight married in a state that didn't recognize gay marriage. Thus, one would be legally married to two people at once.
