Inb4Gaming
Im asking the flood what they want to know, i dont care about the plebians in #gaming.
This is a flood thread, i dont care what the kiddos in #gaming think.
Ok, I'll let this stay in gaming because recon wanted it to be so.
Impressions.
I got four rounds on two maps, played with a few of the weapons.
For the pilot I was able to use the smg and a carbine.
Bothe operated in a satisfying way, like they were real guns. Very little rise when shooting.
The pistol I used was your typical fair, but seemed tight and fun to use when needed. There was an autotargeting pistol as well, which was great at close range it seems.
There was also a sniper, semi auto, which seemed easy to use, but hard to string kills due to handling.
There are two load outs you can choose it seems.
You have a pilot load out, weapons, primary and secondary, item, which I only saw an auto rocket launcher, that was in effective to infantry, but worked on titans when on foot.
Also you had grenades and a tactilol ability. The one I was using allowed you to cloak.
The titans worked in a similar way for what I saw, although I only noticed a perk and choice for a main weapon. Although you had a secondary attack that's on a recharge. You could use a minimum, 40mm canon, and a third weapon I didn't get to use. Also titans can have abilities, like when you eject at critical state, you will detonate the core causing a huge explosion. The secondary attack I used was a missile swarm. Also there was the telltale gravity field, where you could stop enemy fire and redirect. I didn't get to use it effectively, but when he played, it was cool to see.
As for movement in the game. It's fluid, the jumping and wall running took me about a match and half to get going, and realizing what I can do distance wise and vertically in no time. It works pretty simple, there is no fatigue meter for running. You have a secondary jump, you get a sendary jump recharged when you wall run, or after you land again. So you can chain jump up buildings, and once you get a hang of it , get most anyplace you want I imagine.
On top of that you can double jump or ambush from above on an enemy Titan to board it, or a friendly, then you can attack the enemy from the top and take them out.
As for the titans, they can't jump, but they feel beastly, I only had one class to play, which seemed to be the balance of speed and armor. You have a dash that for each time you use, depletes one of two bars, and they are on a recharge. Titans can't jump but they can duck, I don't see the use in this at the moment, but who knows. Surprisingly in the way they handle they manage to feel like a hulking war machine, but agile when you need it to be. Ripping an enemy from their cockpit and tossing them like a rag doll is satisfying, so is launching skyward as you look down and detonate your core, taking several people out.
Overall, I didn't feel weak as a pilot, nor did I feel over powered as a Titan, there is a balance, and immense joy to playing as both.
Lastly, the ai and 6v6 issues. I could see doing 8v8 but 6v6 works great, but I don't even care, there was always someone to shoot, and while the ai weren't crack shots, they could kill you. I see a lot of people making comparisons to them being canon fodder meant to further the game, and push objectives like LoL or DoA. For me it works, they seemed to keep it going, also, knocking time off your Titan timer helps a lot.
Graphically, it's pretty, it's way past in terms of just sheer fidelity of images for what is common, smooth with no graphical lag, and no online lag. But the textures look like they could be more next gen, perhaps if the weren't doing an old/new gen release, it would look far more next gen. Not an issues though, when you are moving and fighting, which is all you'll do, it looks and runs great and is tons of fun.
My buddy said it well in what he thought of the game, overall for an alpha, if it were released as is with a few more maps, it would be a 8.5. But knowing this is the alpha, with definite graphical improvements(textures were reportedly only at 25% due to DL file size), more titans instead of one, more perks, equipment, game modes, maps etc, it can easily be a 9.5, if not a 10.
Blow me, I'm out.
there is no fatigue meter for running
10/10 GOTY. Seriously though, sounds like what I expected. Your typical, boring military FPS affair with a few innovations thrown in that do little to seal the deal. I'll be waiting for Destiny it seems.
