So I just finished eating a potato I cooked in the microwave for lunch, but I damn near lost my potato will cooking it. I'm completely cooking illiterate, so I went online for some easy/fast methods for microwaving a potato (I would bake it, but I was hungry and wanted it fast). I was told to wash the potato, get off the little "eyes" and then prod it with a fork before putting it in the microwave. I did all that and than I was told to put it in for six minutes.
I checked back at three minutes and my potato was damn near ready to explode. I left it out for a few minutes, cut it open and it was cooked perfectly. Why the Hell would I have kept it in there for six minutes?! Anyways, how do you guys microwave your potatoes (if you do cook it that way) so I can learn what NOT to do next time (AKA tomorrow when I'm hungry again).

Man, that is NOT how to cook a potato, you either bake it or fry it. Even though you were hungry, you should have baked it anyways. Also, the six minutes thing, the person that gave those instructions could have had a lower watt microwave.
