In the LOTR and Hobbit universe, if these two enemies met on the battlefield. Who wins?
-
Balrog?
-
Pikachu
-
Umm, if you have read the silmarillion it says that Balrogs ride dragons. So the Balrogs are already the master over them.
-
Smaug. He's a dragon come on people.

Side thought: if Sauron had been aware of Durin's Bane and rallied him to his side would he have won?

Edited by TheChosen: 1/14/2014 9:57:23 PMWhy can community not understand Balrog can not be killed? There are many Balrgod constantly reborn
-
Balrog apparently. Did some research and found someone on another forum who knows what they're talking about.
There were three battles occuring with Balrogs: - Glorfindel vs. a Balrog: both perished - Echtelion vs. Gothmog: both perished - Gandalf vs. a Balrog: both perished There were four battles with Dragons: - Turin vs. Glaurung: Turin killed the dragon without dying himself - Eärendil vs. Ancalagon: Eärendil killed the dragon - Fram vs. Scatha: Fram killed the dragon - Bard vs. Smaug: Bard killed the dragon Can any conclusion be made from this? The Balrogs fought with two Eldar and a Maia, and all of them perished in the fight. The Dragons fought with three men and a half-elf and none of the latter died in combat. Do I really have to say it out loud? The Balrogs would win over dragons any day!
Typhon solos.

Whilst the Balrog did technically kill Gandalf, he fought him one on one. Gandalf didn't try to fight Smaug one on one and even though Smaug died to a normal human I feel like he may have been kind of distracted. I don't know. This is a tough one. But I'll say Smaug because Gandalf took out a Balrog singlehandedly. The real question is can they actually harm each other?

Edited by Roose Bolton: 1/15/2014 1:00:51 AMBalrog's are basically demigods. They can't really die. Whereas as we've explicitly seen, dragons including Smaug, can. There's your answer.
-
I want to say Smaug because Benedict Cumberbatch and actual conversational skills, but he really wouldn't stand a chance.
-
My vote goes to the Balrog. Dragons are mortal (though extremely long-lived) creatures, whereas the Balrogs are immortal spirits in physical form. Zizou's discovery makes a good point as well.
-
Probably Smaug. At least, against the balrog Gandalf beat. Gothmog could probably best Smaug.
-
Edited by Dovahkiin: 1/14/2014 9:35:02 PMBalrog, no contest.
-
Smaug is more agile.
-
Uhm... The Balrog would actually win but dragons r kewlr
-
This isn't even a contest. Smaug. The dragon had only one weakpoint. The spot with the scale missing. Otherwose he was invulnerable. Gandalph took out the Balrog in hand to hand combat.
-
Balrog is a dark power. He has the power to inspire armies and and strike cold fear into the strongest of foes.
-
Smaug.
