So, the other day, I was on the Wikipedia page for the ISS (International Space Station), when I noticed that it had an orbital decay value of 2 Km every month. Curious, I looked in farther to see that most objects in space have either an orbital decay, meaning that that small amount of atmosphere in space slows down the ISS, pushing closer to earth, where more atmosphere means more decay and so on and so forth. When Skylab had reached the end of its life span, they calculated that it would fall in an unpopulated area, and so let it decay right in earth. Wile the majority was destroyed in the atmosphere, it was not all destroyed. To keep the ISS safely in space, NASA has to push it back up every few months, highlighted in the picture above. After the collapse, there was no one to make sure all of the satellites in orbit would stay in orbit... This means that in the destiny universe, there could hundreds of landing sights of satellites that were in space at the time of the collapse, and may still have data relating to what happened during the time of collapse. Possible sde mission for destiny? Thoughts? Edit 11/06/14: Just would like to say that I posted this December of 2013 and I totally called the Warstat Public event.
