Above is an excellent, four-minute video that explains the situation in Syria, what the importance of the war is to the US, and how it has affected the region and the people of Syria.
The conflict is something I've been following relatively closely and I feel like I have a pretty solid understanding of the conflict. I want to know what your guys' thoughts are, though. I'm bored and I feel we haven't discussed this topic since we were about the bomb them back in August.
Do you care about the situation in Syria?
If so, how closely do you follow it?
What are your general thoughts on the conflict?
Do you take a side?
If so, why?
Let's also go this route:
If you have any questions about the conflict, specific or general, feel free to ask.
Do you care about the situation in Syria?
Yes.
If so, how closely do you follow it?
Not very. Since we are, or were, largely getting cockblocked by China(?) and Russia for supporting Assad, there wasn't much we could do besides supplying arms to the rebels.
What are your general thoughts on the conflict?
It's an all around -blam!-ed up situation with almost all of the blame falling on Assad's head for responding to demands for changes in the government with bullets.
Do you take a side?
Rebels.
If so, why?
Because Assad is a tyrannical regime that responded to an Arab Spring uprising by killing people wholesale.
Do you care about the situation in Syria?
Not particularly. The geopolitics can be interesting, but as for the people? Nope.
If so, how closely do you follow it?
Not very.
What are your general thoughts on the conflict?
Stay the hell away. Both sides were responsible for using chemical weapons and the likes of the United Kingdom and Qatar supplied the rebels with the necessary ingredients for such weapons.

I don't have a particular interest in the conflict - but the many conflicting reports of rebel factions and the difficulties of uniting them into a concerted front leads me to believe that the better devil is the one you know.
-
I'm in favor of not intervening because generally it has had a history of biting us in the ass later

Syria will die on there own they already used 3 nuclear woomera on there cities and chemical weapons I say just let suicide country's commit suicide then the us will sweep in act like a hero to the people of Syria take all there natural resources and leave so much suicide in the Middle East the US should not put military troops there let the Arabs suicide bomb them selves and there family's I hear in there religion they go to heaven when they suicide bomb well have fun with that ;)

Are you in favor of war?
-
I'm not well educated about the topic to make an informed decision. So, Nuke 'em. Nuke 'em all.

Well Mag I may as well ask you this since you'll know: Is there any credence to those reports of French Special Forces operating on the ground or are those untrue or unconfirmed?
-
I think that Assad would be a much better leader than the opposition. Considering that they're just as bad, if not worse, than Assad. Though as soon as Syria is over, there will be another war in the Middle East, they been there longer than Europe and you don't British gutting out the French over religion.

I follow it quote closely. I think it's a gigantic clusterfuck will will end with Syria likely becoming Somalia 2.0. The whole conflict is quite absurd, I don't think that ANYBODY could have predicted that it would have turned out like it is currently. A goddamn mess. And while the government is brutal and autocratic, I can't help but to side with it given that most of the opposition are terrorists. At least Syria would have a faint chance of rebuilding in the next few decades if the government wins. It's clear that the rebels are in no way unified.

We should have never been involved in the first place. We have completely messed all of those countries up for a long time, hell, the whole world keeps them messed up.
