Some great games have opening areas or stages what just deter you from wanting to play the game as you have to through that shit to get to the good stuff.
Pic very related, I like KOTOR 2, but the opening area and the final area are just shit.

Oblivion i hate the dungeon and getting out actually I just hate that game in general, probably because I played skyrim first and that game is amazing

Excellent thread. I cant think of a specific thing atm, but there is something that I generally do not like that many good games have in their opening sequences. I really HATE it when you can't skip the opening cutscene / tutorial / sequence etc etc. There are many times, usually in RPGs, where after playing the game for an hour or something I decide to restart the game and begin the character differently. Sometimes I do it 3 times, to try out the three styles (there ar e usually 3 it seems like) I want to be able to skip the cutscenes the second two times!

Any and all Assassin's Creed games. They take for -blam!-ing ever to actually start along the main story line

Why has no one said Twilight Princess yet?

Skyrim... That long ride gets to me every time. Thank the gods that I have the Alternate Start mod.

Halo 3.

Edited by banj0: 12/25/2013 10:16:04 AMAny Assassins Creed game, especially the first one where the opening 40 minutes is looking at two asshole's nostrils and a bunch of backstory you won't remember and will have repeated to you later, followed by annoying-ass tutorials.

KOTOR 2 Halo 3 GTA V

Sierra 117 was pretty boring.

Oblivion and Skyrim, not to mention KoToR 1. I actually kind of liked the intro to KoToR 2, but I'm aware I'm in the minority.

Edited by OmegaCircuit: 12/25/2013 7:56:48 AMI'd agree with KOTOR 2, but only for replays, since Peragus and Telos go on for way too long and have little variation. Halo 3 as well. In comparison to Pillar of Autumn, Cairo Station and even Dawn, Sierra 117 was really boring in my opinion. Also, Devil May Cry, which makes you go through a rather awkward platforming section to collect a bunch of orbs and a key before you even get to fight anything.

Assassins Creed 3. Most people don't like it so its not necessarily a good game, but its opening area is so painfully bad it deserves to be mentioned.

Ugh, I hated KOtoR 2's opening too. So lame! As for my choices... Assasin's Creed 2 - I will never forget how much I hated the opening of this game and how much I was yelling at the blonde woman telling me to do what she said and not ask questions because there wasn't enough time to explain. Had a really hard time with the controls (admittedly, I was playing with a keyboard and mouse, having never played any Assasin's Creed game before) and kept having a difficult time understanding what was going on and where I was. Then, I got into the Animus 2.0 and everything kicked ass after that. Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes - Yes, there were only two guards. Still, my brother and I had an outrageously tough time with the controls and didn't quite grasp the whole sneaking aspect of the game. We died probably 10 times before we finally got to the elevator.

Spec Ops The Line. The opening levels were 100% generic shooter junk. Of course, that was kinda the point.

Edited by Barack Obama: 12/25/2013 6:38:21 AMYou deserve to be publicly shunned if you say Fallout 3.

Edited by Cheesy: 12/24/2013 7:05:10 PM- Oblivion - KOTOR 2 The opening section in KOTOR 2 was pretty creepy the first playthrough, but got boring if you went through it more than once. Oblivion was the worst by far; I wish it was like Morrowind where it throws you into the world almost immediately.

Halo 2. KoTOR 2. It was fun at first, but it gets boring after the 1st playthrough. The only reason why it was fun at first is because of the whole mystery to the level you're trying to find out what happened. Skyrim takes the cake on any game. You have to suffer through that long as ride and then wait till you can run with either those 2 people.

Edited by Tartan 118: 12/24/2013 6:19:42 PMHalo 3 Myst V: End of Ages (worst game in the series anyway. Besides Uru. And it has a terrible opening area too.) Can't think of anymore. :/ Oh wait. I mean, both those games are decent, just not great relative to their series.
