A vaccine for HIV was released that prevented 95% of HIV transmission...
Would you take it?
The risk of vaccination were the same as getting the flu vaccine.
Edit: By risks, I'm refering to adverse affects from the flu vaccine.
You have a 1% risk of the following;
Soreness, redness, and swelling at the injection site
Fainting, mainly in adolescents
Headaches
Fever
Nausea
Runny nose
Wheezing
Headache
Vomiting
Muscle aches
Fever
Difficulty breathing
Hoarseness
Swelling around the eyes or lips
Hives
Paleness
Weakness
Racing heart
Dizziness
Behavior changes
High fever
You have a less than 1% chance of;
A severe allergy that may cause death
Guillain–Barré Syndrome

I wouldn't need to get it

Edited by RazorRyan: 12/9/2013 2:51:36 AMNo, the only effective way to prevent HIV without risks is abstinence. I dont have sex anymore because of the risks that follow. The worst one being, children...
-
Nope.
-
This is amazing. O brave new world.
-
Um, no. In the past seven years, I have never been ill. Not once. This tells me that my immune system just kicks ass on its own. I know that's probably ignorant, but I like enjoying an aspect of my life for once. Goddammit.

Edited by Self Defeat: 12/8/2013 4:38:30 AMNo, I've seen I am Legend too many times.
-
Edited by BaconShelf: 12/8/2013 11:23:02 AMI never plan on doing the 'activities' that cause transmission. So no.
-
Edited by Quantum: 12/8/2013 9:23:15 AMI'd take it because the OP suggests that the consequences are near identical to the flu vaccine. Although if the catch is that you can somehow be infected with HIV proper then no, somehow this vaccine has evaded the FDA.
-
Would I take it immediately? No. I'd take it when it was fully tested and proven. I'd get it eventually, but not day one.
-
No, I have no need. I'm not putting myself into situations where I could be infected.
-
Yes, I would get it.
-
I don't see why not?
-
Can they check to see if you are allergic and where are you injected also what age group?
-
if its free or covered by my insurance then yes. i dont really see myself being in a situation that would put myself at risk for an STD in the near future. i wouldnt object to it being mandatory either
-
-
Seeing as you likely are better informed than me on the topic, do you think that an HIV vaccine, more effective treatment, or even a cure is likely within the next 5-10 years?
-
Guillain–Barré
Isn't this something that occurs is something like one millionth of the population? And yeah, I would take the vaccine.
-
Getting injected with a dormant strain of HIV that they say works "95%" of the time, slightly scares me. I don't have it right now and if I'm careful i will never contract it. I rather not take the injection.
-
Porch no.
-
What is Guillain-Barre Syndrome? Otherwise yes I would take it.
-
Is it administered by you?
-
I'd wait a year or two to see if it triggers the zombie apocalypse or not. (not like i'm getting any action anyway, so I can wait)
-
I would get it right after I get my flu-shot.
-
Yes. Not really any reason not to.
-
Nope. I like the risk of aids
