Honest opinion of ME?

It's probably my favorite fictional-universe all said and done. If I could live in the universe of ME1 instead of my own, I'd take it in a heart beat. While the aesthetics of the sequels never really resonated with me as much as the first game, I did enjoy the stories, and even though I wasn't always interested in where it went, the writing was still leaps and bounds above most games. Contrary to damn near everybody, the final sections of ME3 were probably my favorite parts of the trilogy. Hate all you want, but it takes balls to do what they did.

IMO, ME1 was great. It had a good story and characters and great sci-fi atmosphere. Unlike most people, I also enjoyed various aspects of its gameplay (like planetary exploration and the side quests). As an overall experience, I thought ME2 was even better, since it improved upon most aspects (more hubs, side quests with truly unique areas, more variable dialogue choices, better final mission) and had great characters and a really epic feel to it. Unfortunately, the plot was mediocre. As for ME3, well, it was a massive step down in almost every category from my perspective. I'm not sure I've ever been more disappointed by a game.
