The Ashkenazi Jews are Jews who live or are from central/eastern Europe. They are descended from the Israelites who migrated to Europe around 800 AD.
The word "Ashkenazi" means "Germany" in Medieval Hebrew, as historically, Germany was where most of the Ashkenazi population was concentrated. You'll notice that "Ashkenazi" contains "Nazi" at the end, the name of the very people who killed them centuries later in the Holocaust. And Nazism was born in Germany.
