So I rewatched DeathNote last week and stopped watching once L died. I'm not talking about the episode when he died, but the episode afterwards that gave his findings on the Kira case to his successors and revealed that Light had been killing for an additional 5 years.
Why did I stop there? I think it was a better ending to the series than the one they had originally for the Anime.
So what do you think? Personally, I would have liked to have seen a morally gray character like Light win in the end, but leave it up to your own imagination or speculation as to if L's successors actually catch him. A better ending overall would have left out the message to his final successors and maybe have had it broadcast to Light in some way, but that is beside the point.
What do you think?

Two things. 1. L is to this day one of the most interesting characters like... ever. He is fascinating, well written, and [arguably] the best part of the show died with him. 2. Go watch the Live Action movies. The Live Action Movies end with L and, while there are major similarities between the anime and movie, the movies do follow a different plot... and have a DRASTICALLY different ending. In my opinion, the [second] movie's ending is the best conclusion we could have had.
