Deathnote Discussion (spoilers for those who haven't watched it)
So I rewatched DeathNote last week and stopped watching once L died. I'm not talking about the episode when he died, but the episode afterwards that gave his findings on the Kira case to his successors and revealed that Light had been killing for an additional 5 years.
Why did I stop there? I think it was a better ending to the series than the one they had originally for the Anime.
So what do you think? Personally, I would have liked to have seen a morally gray character like Light win in the end, but leave it up to your own imagination or speculation as to if L's successors actually catch him. A better ending overall would have left out the message to his final successors and maybe have had it broadcast to Light in some way, but that is beside the point.

I thought it was a good ending. Light pays for being cocky and selfish.

I absolutely love DeathNote, even to this day. I think most of the reason it ended the way it did, is because it didn't have as strong a backing as it does now, so I think the author just wanted to finish it and move on.

8 RepliesI enjoyed the first season immensely, I wanted Light to win but I enjoyed the Holmes/Moriarty with L/Ryuzaki. Then when they killed off L and left us with some irritating midget L and all the CIA stuff I just lost interest, especially because I then found out that Light dies at the end so it was just... Meh, why bother finishing it now? I'd have loved for Light to have won and wiped out all the scum on the earth but sadly I guess not many people want to see the Good Bad-Guy win, they want a happy ending for their sensitivities.

Deaf note was retarded and highly overrated in my opinion. plot was weak and far too predictable.

4 RepliesTwo things. 1. L is to this day one of the most interesting characters like... ever. He is fascinating, well written, and [arguably] the best part of the show died with him. 2. Go watch the Live Action movies. The Live Action Movies end with L and, while there are major similarities between the anime and movie, the movies do follow a different plot... and have a DRASTICALLY different ending. In my opinion, the [second] movie's ending is the best conclusion we could have had.

I sort of just shut down and stopped watching after L died. The "N" character just seemed unappealing to me.

Mikami's an idiot that didn't follow Light's orders. Not Light's fault Mikami f***ed up. It's all his fault that Light lost.

I liked it. I didn't like the entire cour as a whole; Mello/Near were really dumb characters. I liked the ending, though. I know people think that it is dumb Light lost to Near and not L, but honestly I think it's okay. Light was overconfident after L died. He didn't believe Mello/Near were as good as L, and ended up doing some very stupid things. He would have never tried to pull off a stunt like he did at the end of Death Note against L; it was far too risky. But since he thought nobody could ever stop him and that Near was just a nuisance, he ended up dying. Overconfidence was his downfall. I don't think the ending you described would have been that great. I'd prefer closure to something opened ended like that.

I liked the way the Anime ended. [spoiler]It ended pretty closely to the way I wanted it to, my only issues being that I still can't believe Mello died and, despite his death, Near was able to salvage Mello's death and catch Light. I'm also don't really understand the point of Misa in the second half of the show, it's like she wasn't even there. Light fell about as far as he possibly could have, I'm glad that Ryuk killed Light exactly the way he said he would. It was the only end that Light could have met.[/spoiler]

I wouldn't have been satisfied. Either light attains true god hood, or ends up dead.
