a strange, tingly sensation, known in some corners of the Internet as a brain orgasm. Whispering is a primary trigger, but anything from the sound a pen makes when drawing on a piece of paper to rhythmic, monotonous speech can spark an episode. And it’s not just about sounds. Having someone focus specifically on you–such as when an optometrist performs an eye exam or when your hairdresser cuts your bangs–can also invoke the same feeling; the sensation of someone gently tracing lines on your back or stroking your hair can incite that familiar fizzle.
Now, there's not much research on this and people experience ASMR in so many different ways that it's incredibly hard to describe.
I never even realized that I actually experience ASMR on a daily basis, until I read this article by Time.
Every day/night, my husband runs his fingers lightly across my back/legs/arms (depending on how we're laying). Literally every day/night. It's become habitual and I never knew just how important it is to me.
What's your ASMR?

Bob Ross's painting videos, no homo.

Oh look, your thread is globally muted.
-
I'm not sure right now, I'll have to think about it.
-
Essentially the same as yours. I absolutely love when my girlfriend does that or when she plays with my hair. But, it's even better when she pets and plays with my beard.
-
Huh, so that's what that's called. The only time I can recall it happening is whenever I've gotten a hair cut, there have been other times but I don't remember what caused it. I wish I could experience that feeling all the time though, that and the feeling I get whenever I lightly tap my elbow on something.

Cabbages.
-
None of the vids in this thread do it for me :/
-
Running my fingers across a sharp metal edge. If it takes off right, at first I'll feel a rush, then my stomach hurts, then I get cold, then my chest starts hurting and I get nauseous. It's only happened a few times. I'll also get it if it's raining at sunset and I can hear it.

I get ASMR when you reply with "K."

Edited by Legend To None: 11/19/2013 8:48:26 AMWell whispering ain't mine but I do remember listening to Sirius XM and this really good song came on and I felt a feeling closely described like in this site. I had it for like 6 seconds as it built up then it dropped and it was weird, thought a tumor was developing tho but song was great so turned up volume and it was awesome. Also at the barber I get this feeling often thats my best boring example but makes me enjoy the barber since its my Sin Free Mind-Porn

Apparently I'm like the damn cat. Girlfriend scratches under my chin or runs her hands through my hair....there's also that thing she does when she rubs my knees but that might be because I've torn the hell out of my ACLs so many times....

Edited by Demon Sorcerer Miyagi: 11/19/2013 11:20:42 AMI do like it when people rub or "trace" my back. Haircuts are nice too, except for when my hair is getting brushed
-
This thread is on a new level of edginess... I can't even.
-
I actually realized that if my husband happens to be breathing down my back, it's such a chill down my spine that it's completely uncontrollable and sometimes I even sneeze. That HAS to be an ASMR. Right? Also, the sound of someones vegetables steaming, soothes me. *looks at muted individual*

See what you invited Cam... This is all your fault.

a strange, tingly sensation, known in some corners of the Internet as a brain orgasm.

I'll give more than just your brain an orgasm.
-
Yeah, I get one in my penis when I it

Edited by Verachi: 11/19/2013 6:59:28 AMI have no idea why but I hate when people -blam!-ing whisper. As for my ASMR's I have no idea what they are.
-
Oh so that's what that feeling is!
-
No clue. I'll pay attention throughout the day tomorrow and find out. I'm thinking I still won't notice anything though.
-
My scalp. Everything does it from washing my hair to a haircut. only when others do it, though.
-
I get it when people scratch my back or in general lay a finger on me because I'm a deprived soul.
-
Seemed relevant. Full video can be found here, where they also describe and attempt to understand ASMR. Rhett & Link

-sees replies on thread- Oh goodie, cool discussion about this topic! -Red texts kills my retina-

Ephemeral Rift is my favorite. Non-traditional ASMR is the best.
