So I am currently in a retail job at a clothing / Home & Garden store. A well known one at that, yay right? Nope.
The job sucks and pay is awful, I am working the long shift at the moment and decided to see if we could get a survival tips thread going on how to pass time and make jobs like this bearable as I am sure I'm not the only one here on b net with a job like this.
Don't let me down share your wisdom.
A tip from me would be: Take regular toilet breaks (such as I am doing now) not too regular that it is suspicious and make sure it is at a time people won't notice you are gone. (Not when it is busy, times like near the end when pretty much all is done)
Edit:
This is not a case of 'Skipping work' the fact is by the last hour or so there is no work to do.

Edited by The Last Ewok: 10/26/2013 5:36:45 PMI worked in Retail for 7 years. Glad to be out. The bathroom break thing is classic, but what I found that really helped me pass the time was to try and find ways to get really engaged with customers. I found if I just let myself get caught up in helping people and tried having normal conversations, they day flew by. It was the days that I wanted time to fly that would just drag on. Projects also help. Or social experiments. There were times when we would be bored, and each with each new customer we would attempt different accents on them. Pretty funny stuff. Best of luck during the holidays! Get some mad OT and buy yourself something special. ;)
