The European Parliament has voted to suspend the sharing of financial data with the US, following allegations that citizens' data was spied on.
The allegation forms part of leaked documents from whistleblower Edward Snowden.
The vote is non-binding but illustrates MEPs' growing unease over how much data was shared with the US.
It comes a day after it was alleged that German Chancellor Angela Merkel's mobile phone calls were monitored.
The European Parliament voted to suspend its Terrorist Finance Tracking Program (TFTP) agreement with the US, in response to the alleged tapping of EU citizens' bank data held by the Belgian company SWIFT.
The agreement granted the US authorities access to bank data for terror-related investigations but leaked documents made public by whistleblower Edward Snowden allege that the global bank transfer network was the target of wider US surveillance.
MEPs also want to launch a full inquiry into the alleged spying.
Well done America, your alienating the largest economy on the planet.

Oh look, an idiot complaining about his "privacy" being invaded when he has nothing of value to offer anyway. If you have nothing to hide, then it's irrelevant.

As an American, I can say without a doubt, that I hate my government.
-
And we wonder why people hate us.
-
Why do people even take this idiot and his bait threads seriously?
-
Does this mean foreigners won't be hijacking my online matches causing enormous lag because of their ghetto internet?
-
EH, we need to. start cutting ties with the U.S anyway, at least until they get a new guy in the white house.
-
Snowden is a pussy
-
Does it make a difference? Shitty governments are still invading the privacy of citizens all across Europoor.
-
I've never cared if the US government wants to look at my data. They haven't alienated my custom.
-
-
Good, EU shouldn't put up with this crap, i'm dissapointed that people here in the US aren't fed up with this crap
-
It's a start.
-
I thought the whole Snowden thing was old news? Or was that a different scandal?
-
Take down the missile shield then.

Edited by risay_117: 10/24/2013 3:13:52 PMLooks like America really is shooting themselves in the shoe. Why are they trying to spy on others, is it a fear of losing power, is it money, is it corporate competitiveness that is pushing the government to spy. Same thing happened in Canada where the intelligence was spying on Brazil for the Canadian corporations. Looks like Americans will really need to shake things up to change the country.

Good! We deserve it!
-
These same people would be begging us to back up their asses if anything happened to them.
-
This is good.

Edited by DEZARATH: 10/24/2013 2:07:06 PMYou would think after these revelations Germany would invite Snowden and grant citizenship rather than letting him rot in Russia.

Edited by A Good Troll: 10/24/2013 1:26:53 PMWe don't care. We will just steal and spy that information too.

"Hey, quit spying on our citizens, that's our -blam!-ing job!" -British government

Not that it's going to stop the NSA and CIA from accessing that information, just make it harder to obtain. However, good for the EU.
