Could someone tell me why this is such a big deal? Why the hell do you want to use your real names on a gaming console?
-
Two words HELL NO XB1 and PS4 is NOT twitter or FB. A gaming alias is part of the culture. For those who dont like that, go play FB games.
-
No way in hell I would do that. People who are excited for it are beyond naive.

WoW lets you choose for your super close friends to either Real ID or Battletag. This lets you talk to the person whenever they're on, regardless of what character they're playing. You can even talk to them if they're playing Starcraft or Diablo. With Real ID you give them your email, which them shows the name you registered your WoW account under. With Battletag, you give them a number which is universal across all your Blizzard games and lets you do the same things, but without giving your name. It's a pretty neat system.

Edited by Hunter: 10/24/2013 1:37:53 AMThe only thing I could see it being useful for is maybe making it easier to find friends. Just enter their name instead of their Gamertag/PSN ID if it's long or complicated. Past that, though, nothing.

Better be able to turn it off. I have a really unique last name so it would be easy if someone wanted to look me up.
-
I think it'd be nice to be able to see and show your real name to friends you know in real life, but its certainly nothing to be excited about. I don't understand it either really.
-
I don't get why you don't get it. Do you have any examples?
-
It's a completely stupid idea. The fact that people are moaning about it not being available at launch is pretty dumb.

BECAUSE MUH SOCIAL INTERACTION YO! MUH FRIENDS.
