I was hanging out with a younger friend of mine a few days ago and he told me that he had been diagnosed with "math dyslexia," and his high school has an alternate schooling system for people with it, and it only required him to take business math, while the rest of his subjects focus on non-math learning.
He's an intelligent guy, he can grasp difficult philosophical concepts/has really good critical reading skills, but has always sucked at anything math related.
So could this actually be a disorder? Or is it just that he's never been educated enough? I had a hard time with highschool math, but I was also lazy, now that I'm in college I can't afford to be lazy and I'm doing just fine with math now.
I'm suspicious it's just an excuse for his school to not have to count his bad grades, and an incentive for anti-ADHD prescriptions.
BTW this is the USA educational system.
