Bungie has always referred to the world of Destiny as "A world with hope." They've stated that while yes, The City is the final bastion of humanity, and that so much has been lost, they didn't want the player to feel hopeless nor have the game feel too depressing.
I created this thread to ponder with my fellow Guardians the phrase, "A World with Hope." What do you all think this means for Destiny as a game? Perhaps from a gameplay and narrative perspective?
Bungie, if you are ready to clarify, what does this mean for the game's story progression, the feel of the solar system, the feel of our Guardians? Maybe even the music of Destiny?
For me, I've always taken the phrase, "A world with hope" to carry the same feeling as The Lord of the Rings series, where darkness had fallen on man, but there was always hope throughout it all. In the movies, the soundtrack would introduce themes by playing darker tunes while following up with lighter-hearted pieces such as "Concerning Hobbits," or "The Return of the King" to perfectly bring the feeling of triumph and victory home at the end. If it is anything like that, color me excited.
What do you guys think?

I think this means that Destiny can be whatever you want it to be. It may start out strange and unfamiliar, but as you play it, you get to form your own playstyle, your own Destiny. You get to do what you want to do, see what you want to see, and eventually create a story you can proudly call your own. At least, that's the world of hope we'll live in until the game comes out.

Vistas, dawg.

The hope exists for our once mighty civilisation to rise strong and tall again on the back of the Traveller, the Guardians and of course our badass weapons!

Destiny will be an open world shooter, will have a online community, and we will play as guardians, sole protectors of humanity, the heroes. It's all described with the phrase " a world with hope". We are the hope, we guardians will take back what's ours and restore our place in the solar system.

Edited by FairlySplendid: 10/11/2013 1:27:10 AMTo quote DeeJ:
DeeJ: "We really don't see Destiny as gritty or dark. It is a post apocalyptic world that we've created, but even in that environment, there is an opportunity to create a bright and hopeful place. Heroes who face danger, to defend a shining city underneath The Traveler. Humankind is still in a place of dignity and honor in this game. And we are going out into the bones of our shattered civilization to rescue the rewards that are hidden in the rumble. And former cities, former installations have been reclaimed by nature in a way that you may find beautiful…."
http://www.bungie.net/en-us/Forum/Post?id=62040755 He goes on to say that we are Heroes, not soldiers, on a journey to reclaim what was once ours. Not a mission of revenge.

It could simply mean that with all the evil and darkness that has befallen the human race dose not mean that it is the end, there is hope, a light in the darkness. That the hope of mankind are the Guardians, or that there is hope found within the confines of the universe of Destiny. We must decide what to do with the time that is given to us. Hope some of this made sense.
