should they need parental consent?
A 16-year-old girl was denied an abortion when the Nebraska Supreme Court upheld a ruling Friday that she was "not sufficiently mature" to make the decision to have one.
Nebraska law requires that girls 17 or younger must have written, notarized consent from a parent or guardian in order to have an abortion. In this case, the teenager, identified only as "Anonymous 5," is in foster care, but did not want to involve her foster parents out of fear that they would be so angry about her pregnancy that she could lose her placement at their home, according court documents.
A girl can bypass the consent provision in certain cases. Minors do not need parental permission in cases of medical emergencies, if they are victims of abuse, or if they can prove they are mature and well-informed enough to make the decision alone.
When she initially went before Judge Peter Bataillon in July, he ruled that she did not provide evidence she was a victim of abuse, and also "failed to establish by clear and convincing evidence that she is sufficiently mature and well informed."
So... the girl is mature enough to consider the consequences of her situation for herself and her siblings, and she's mature enough to go to court by herself and know the law, but that's not mature enough to decide whether or not to end her pregnancy? I wonder what this judge's idea of someone who's mature enough is.

No, you're not old enough to have an abortion. You are old enough to carry the baby for 9 months, go through giving birth and then give up any hopes and dreams for the near future to care for your newly born child, most likely born out of one heated mistake. -blam!-ING LOGIC

I can't believe that so many people voted yes...

If you're grown up to have sex then you're grown up to raise the child. Maybe next time think before you act?
-
Shes bloody not responsible to raise a kid!
-
in most containment protocols, the carrier of the infestation must also be aborted.
-
>I made a huge mistake and created a new life >Instead of being responsible for my actions and helping that life prosper I'll just kill it >"We won't let you do that." >Libretards get madddd

I have the solution guys, it's the only way. Ban sexy time
-
In the UK the patient has the right to confidentiality and all ages, if that girl wants an abortion she should be entitled to it without parental permission. You can hide many medical things from your parents why not an abortion?

Ban babies

Abortion is murder. So basically your question is: " Should a minor be allowed to murder? " See how ridiculous this is!!?!!

YOUR rights end when another life begins

Edited by SexyPiranha: 10/10/2013 3:53:11 AMShe's not mature enough to abort a child. . .but she's mature enough to . . .raise it? wat
-
Personally I think that in this case she should be able to abort it. However she can't A-sexually reproduce, the farther should get a day when it comes to abortions.
-
I vote for the "No abortion at all" option.
-
How did she keep her pregnancy a secret from them when her case was in the Nebraska Supreme Court?
-
Her bewbs can't have been big enough,
-
She's too young to have a kid, she should be allowed to abort it.
-
Most states consider a pregnant teenager emancipated, making this topic moot.
-
minors shouldn't be getting pregnant in the first place.
-
Honestly what Sallos said, but this day and age, anything can happen I actually have a friend who just turned 18 this past Saturday and knew she was probably going to need a parent to get the abortion, so she waited If you ask me, I don't think they should, but then again I'm split on the abortion debate anyways
-
How bout this. Just make abortion illegal and make people responsible for their choices. She is a minor have unprotected sex she needs to deal with the consequences.
-
Clearly she wants an abortion because she was also an accident child, which brings the foster background into play.
-
If she was willing to spread her legs, she should also be willing to raise the child she co-created...

Hahaha these threads classic. They bring the best out of people.

Edited by Choopie: 10/10/2013 2:30:56 AMNo. I think that she should control her own life and she can screw it up or have regret if she wants, even if her parents feel like they raised a whore daughter and wants whats best. I don't agree with abortion and strongly discourage it but in the end she should control her own life. Shouldn't be having sex or use protection. Plain as that...
