It happened to me today. For a lot of my nuke classes, we use government databases for tabulated information on neutron and photon cross sections. The websites that host these databases have all been shutdown. This means that I actually had to physically track down an ancient thing called a "book" to do my homework today. It didn't even give links to the studies/methodologies that were used to get the data.
Mark my words; someone is going to pay for this.

Yes, my pay is suspended.

Considering I don't live in your country, no. But what happens in the states has a big trend on Canadian government. Inevitably, where the states goes, our government will eventually go too, or at the very least, have troubles. Needless to say, I'm happy to live in the middle of nowhere, where the government has about enough power or influence as a 12 year old standing in front of me and saying, "Get the -blam!- out of the way."

My dad is a Senior Engineer for the US Army. He designs the Bradley tank and works on the simulations that are supposed to train the soldiers to use it. He didn't get furloughed, but more than half his team did. Many of the teams that he collaborates with were furloughed. So he goes to the office and can barely do any work and still gets paid.
-
Yeah. Seeing how I live in the D.C. Metro area I have less traffic in the mornings. Now I can sleep a little longer.

The company that I do marketing for provides software engineering services for defense and aerospace. We make sure that the flight control computer software is up to FAA or DoD/Mil standards. So, YES the shutdown is effecting me. Albeit not directly. When the DoD puts a stop-work on orders for new drone, planes and computer systems, the companies my engineers work for halt the work on those projects. While their internal employees retain their pay, what do you think happens to the 1099 contractors? If you said that they go home and don't bill for their time, you are correct. The last week we've been paying out, but not bringing anything in. If it goes for much longer I will need to tap out and find other work. I have to make sure the engineers stay around, because without them, we have no company.

course not

Not currently living in the U.S., so no. But the U.S. government is really looking bad to the rest of the world as big babies...

-
Nope. I don't use food stamps or other types of gov payment so I'm good for now
-
It didn't affect me directly but my friend is having to help pay for his moms bills. She works for the VA (Veterans Association) and doesn't get paid till the shutdown is over.
-
Yeah, it gave me another reason to facepalm at the american gov.
-
No, we just closed out all of our government contracts, and working exclusively on private ones.
-
I wont get my mid month paycheck :/ which I need for groceries.
-
Not at the moment.
-
It affected me on October 1st because I am in the military. All of the civilians got furloughed, and then over the weekend the Department of Defense was like, "oh wait.... even with a government shutdown we can still afford to pay our civilian employees...." So they all came back to work yesterday.

Nope, i am living in Canada, typing here wondering how it will effect me. Though the debt ceiling might.
-
I've fallen and I can't get up!

Yeah. My mom is working with no pay at the moment and she's our family's only real source of income since my dad retired. I keep the money I make for food and supplies. As for me, I took out federal loans. If this goes on, I'm going to be feeling the pain soon.
-
Yeah. The jet company my dad works for in the middle east gets its funding from the US Navy, his raise is currently postponed. Nbd.
-
I use federal loans to pay for school. If this keeps up a little longer then it will affect me.
-
Nope.
