Is it right to abort a girl because you want a boy?
The Chinese think so, and Britain is starting to have that problem. (read the link) [Bear in mind Britain doesn't seem to have the same amount of cultural pressure to have male children, nor do they have a one child policy]

it's entirely based on opinion, just like "are abortions considered murder"
-
Only if there is a disease that will be passed on to one gender.
-
No, I don't necessarily like abortion but I don't think it should be banned, and not used casually.
-
omg, I need to ask this question to one of my feminist liberal friends... Yes or no, she's still hypocrite! Genius.

Edited by Ad Hoc: 10/8/2013 6:04:16 AMI'm almost always Liberal, but I'm pretty much totally against abortion. There are obviously certain circumstances where it's okay- when it's very early on or if the mother's life is in great danger, but that's all I'll support. I understand that women should have the right to control their bodies, but we really can't go around the fact that there's a living human being inside their belly. There's is absolutely no way to determine when an unborn baby is self-aware, so it's a lot safer just to assume they are, rather than risking the death of a conscious human being. There are too many people who would rather get an abortion than take responsibility for their mistakes. Yes, condoms and birth control can fail, but when you're having sex you should know the risk and prepare to accept the consequences. I know that sounds really lame, but it's better than killing an unborn child just because you don't want to take responsibility for it.

When we are over populating the planet and destroying nature, yes abortion of any kind is right.

Aborting because of gender? I wasn't aware that foetuses displayed the socially constructed characteristics of masculinity and femininity.

Sure...it's the girls body, she can legally do whatever she wants.
-
Saying abortion is acceptable, except for when it is over gender just seems like a double standard to me. :/

It isn't right to abort, period. Do the crime, do the time. /thread

Edited by CND AAA Beef: 10/8/2013 2:24:40 PMI understand the cultural pressure to have male children in places like China, though I still strongly object to sex selective abortion. But in other parts of the world where that pressure does not exist, I see no justification for sex selective abortion. Frankly, I consider anyone who considers that seriously, or undergoes sex selective abortion to be an unfit parent and shouldn't have children at all.

If you can abort at all, then it doesn't matter if it's a girl or a boy. I find it funny how abortion is acceptable until you do it to a girl fetus then it's suddenly morally corrupt.

Edited by The Great DanTej: 10/8/2013 3:52:36 AMWell, being objective here, if the parent really wants a boy, and absolutely does not want a girl, what good would it do to force the child to grow up in a household that doesn't love them? furthermore, who are you(anyone who says no) to force a woman to give birth to a child they don't want? That's practically the definition of cruel and unusual punishment. Now being subjective, I could care less (and I could care more), but I don't really care enough about this anyway.

It's wrong to abort over gender.
-
China and India do and it's disgusting. Britain is not having that problem, it's just selfish bastards that want to pick and choose their living doll. The only things that should be considered are 1. Can you afford to look after the child 2. would you be a suitable parent/bring up the child in a safe environment 3. Will it have a life threatening disease 4. Will it have a disadvantage in life due to a complication AKA down syndrome, paralyzed at birth? The gender, hair colour, skin colour should NEVER be considered in an abortion and you are a disgusting human being for even considering an abortion for any of those reason. These are human beings not dolls or accessories.
-
No its not right to abort over gender. While I think there are circumstances where its acceptable, thats screwed up and wrong
-
The Chinese are due to its culture way back when they were still warring kingdoms. They required more men rather than women, so we can't really change their way of thinking. It's wrong, but it's their culture and it doesn't really harm you directly or indirectly.

STOOPID.

Don't kill the baby. Kill the wife!

Pretty sure I read China had an excess of guys or something
-
It may be legal, but it's not right.

I understand why they do it in China, not Britain though.
-
It's wrong.
