A nine-year-old Orlando, Fla. boy—"so tiny ... he could barely see the judge over the podium"—was sentenced to home confinement by a state judge after he brought "multiple weapons to school." The video game being blamed? Minecraft. Mine-bleeping-craft.P
The unnamed student had "an unloaded handgun, a magazine with six bullets inside, a steak knife and a small-handled sledge hammer," reports WFTV-TV of Orlando. The firearm came from his father's home.P
"The boy's father said he was playing a character he learned from the video game Minecraft," WFTV reports. P
"They use hammers to dig and knives and guns to protect themselves from zombies," he said, according to the station.12P
WFTV reported that his father said "he was just acting out the game" and that the gun could never be fired, because it's firing pin had been removed. Still, the kid knew where to find it, and knew where to find the ammo, which ain't good.
But while Minecraft is not exactly a nonviolent game, in no way does it rise to the level of violence in typical scapegoats like Call of Duty or Grand Theft Auto. Minecraft is rated E10+ by the ESRB. Hearing that game—which is being taught in first grade, for God's sake—linked to a garden variety guns-n-schools freakout story is just nauseating.
If you're gonna blame a game for your own stupidity, at least blame it on something generic like CoD, Battlefield, or GTA. Not a game about blocks.

I love that the article says nothing about the dad who is retarded enough to leave a gun out for a child to get a hold of.

Edited by comiclegregblade: 4/23/2014 9:41:03 PMProbably castle miner z minecraft doesn't have guns unless it's modded Edit: posted back in September let's not necro bump this anymore

It is annoying how much gaming is blamed for these kind of cases. Leaving a gun out and reachable for a small child? That is negligence right there. I know this is a old post, but these kind of circumstances piss me off and remind me how much some people avoid the truth

Of course the father blames it on video games, he's too much of a wimp to stand up for what his son did and admit some of it was his fault.
-
Trying to blame video games for violence? Well... That's cool, but anybody with common sense understands that if you bring a gun to school, That's real, you'll get in serious trouble. But it was a little kid, so sense this only happens with smaller children, lets not let them play until there like 14-16 years old. Good radiance to the squeakers. ^.^
Lawl, I'm just joking! :D
It couldn't possibly be the father's fault.

Edited by WickedNavajo: 4/23/2014 5:17:19 AMSomeone obviously didn't research Minecraft enough/correctly/at all before talking their side in a courtroom. I bet those creeper plush dolls will also be banned soon, because they "might contain real gunpowder" or something like that.

Edited by Dragonfire: 9/29/2013 10:15:41 PMI'm wondering if the dad meant this game.

But minecraft doesn't even have guns...

Hahaha and that's why society is -blam!-ed.

"Yeah my son like totally acted out this guy, what was his name? Oh right yeah Master Chief or something. And I think that's from Minecraft or Call Of Duty or something like that."

People will blame anything to get the blame off themselves.

NEW LAW Ban Minecraft.

Kids, they never learn

Edited by General Sum Ting: 9/29/2013 10:20:49 PMThe only fault is the parent for buying a kid games he wasn't ready for and was under the recommended age. And if not that, for leting his kid go to school with weapons.

"What? My child was able to access my firearm? Damn you Minecraft!"
