Nostalgia. Are you doing it right?

Tell me about the Bungie that kept you here. Was it the pimp ass weekly updates? If so, who was the author of those when you started? Frankie, Lukems, Urk, Deej, ect. Was it the forums? Who do you remember? I'm talking some legit long term member...like Obi Wan Stevobi, Impurity, BerserkerBarage (BB), or Anton P Nym? Do you remember some groups that were the foundation of what groups are now? Marty's Army? Bungie Jumpers? The Frozen Minority? Thee Warriors? Tell me what it is, or was for that matter that makes you want to be here. Or you can tell me what it is that you hate.

  • The Halo 3 Forum initially. Then Private Groups. Then Spartan Ken. Then the site updated and all desire to even bother using this site went away.

  • Private groups (Thee Warriors in particular) kept me on the site. Ironically enough, when I returned back to this site in March, I had to ask its leader to un-permaban me, so apparently I was much fonder of them than they were of me :P

    • Frankie was the author when I first started coming around. I was also an immature fourteen year old at the time that typed in a lot of internet speak. I never took notice to members way back in the day, but I do know all of those names. I really wasn't an active forum member until I was in college. I haven't been to this site consistently across the nine years that I have been here, unfortunately. However, I recently came back because I was getting bored of just looking at reddit all day and was hoping for there to be interesting topics and good discussions here... As you may know, that is not something that is common on this website. Maybe I'm just remembering the good things, but before I left this site the last time I felt as if the topics were better and easier to have a good back and forth with members of the forum. However, since the site update I feel the new format doesn't lead to good back and forths and makes one on one discussions more common. I also feel that the quality of the topics has really degraded, but that might just be me maturing and not wanting to deal with the stupid threads that plague The Flood.

*Cue nostalgia music. The community that kept me here is a large culmination of events, users and various activities, but off the top of my head I'll name a few: It was Frankie's Weekly Updates to start with including Mister Chief updates and Community Humpday Challenges. Events like...I Love Bees and CompoundIntelligence/AR (for weeks), Skiptrace, AFEM, Halo3/Reach Beta F&F Code Scavenging, Pimps At Sea, Webcam Games or when private groups were shut down for a whole month. I haven't seen TFM on these forums in a while. Along with TMA (Marty's Q&A's), Group Founders, and The Backdrop. I still see Steve around (#DudeNailerz), but not others like Lord Snakie, Watermelon King, The Rip Saw, Skibur, atomic weggie, racccoon, Impy and SonicJohn. I also think it was more unified when we all had the most current Bungie game and played it religiously. Honestly I'm curious to see how the community in general reacts and shapes differently when we go multiplatform with Destiny. In future community carnages or ride alongs or Bungie Day Invites or Social Gamenights, we'll have to have a PS4 thread, Xbox One thread or even 360 and PS3 thread, simply because of our platform of choice. With Halo, everyone had an Xbox. 'Tis not the case with Destiny. We'll see.

      • I remember joining the forums during Iris, first time I came across something like that. Was alot of fun, I remember all the cool names of the forums like 'the underground' etc. I think they all changed a few months after I joined though. The weekly updates were awesome and the podcasts were much more regular back then, I always used to make a massive plate of toast and marmalade with a pint of milk and lay in bed before going to sleep to listen to them - very random ritual but I loved it.

      • I remember being a wide-eyed tween fresh from my first Halo 2 experience, eagerly awaiting a Halo 3 announcement. I frolicked through the Flood and aspired to join the Cavegirls. Everyone told me to be afraid of Shishka, not approach Toast, and to blame Stosh. People kept plotting to start another Zanzibar vs. Flood forum war and voted on Queen of the Flood. Berserker Barrage would drop words of wisdom in the Septagon and beyond. At least four months in advance there would be a PAX group and thread made, psyching me up for when I got to see my friends again. Sarison and I would run amok with a Katy Perry account while CAVX toiled away on the custom avatar scripts. On one occasion I got Recon in trouble with one of our inappropriate forum escapades. I grew up here. This place means a lot to me. There are too many stories for me to write down in one sitting about this place. And I know that some may feel a little disheartened about those who have left and the strangers that have arrived. But we were all disoriented strangers here at some point. Once we have something wonderful and new to rally around, our list of stories and people from here will grow.

        • I'm a lifelong PS player. So it was Bungie's work and reputation on Halo that brought me here. I've never heard anyone say, "Boy, that Halo game really sucked!" For that and the fact that Battlefield is a CoD clone now. Looking forward to a new decade of fun.

            • The Bungie that kept me here was the Halo 3 Forum, and later the Septagon. It was the private groups like The WorkPLace, Mythics, and all those other great little communities. It was Achronos popping into threads to remind us all that he could imbed pictures of cats or steaks and we couldn't. It was discussions in the Septagon that seemed too serious and thoughtful for a site like this, yet they had 2 dozen pages with walls of text from mods and members alike. It was the the knowledge that Bungie was always keeping a finger on the pulse of the community. It was John Cena. It was the kids crying about their bans. It was the new members not reading Duardo's member title thread, going on to make their own member title thread. It was dmg reminding everyone '04 or bust. It was spartainken15 and his swag bags. It was alot of things. But for me, in a sense, it was home.

            • I came here because of a link in the Halo:PC game server. Back then the community was awesome. Everybody was ready to share and help out, even when you asked some newb question that's been answered a million times. Everything slowed down before Halo 3 came out, then it was overwhelming with all of the new people that come for H3. But they settled down and grew into the community, and we are the better for it. The community is still awesome, and still growing. It will be interesting to see where we go with this new turn from Bungie.

            • Frankie always kept me coming back, even before I was a member with his weekly updates, those were some good times. I kinda stopped showin up for a period when deej first took over and after Halo ODST for a bit. I never hung out on the forums too much, only occasional posts here and there.

[/quote] Just letting you know, DeeJ doesn't write Weekly Updates. There hasn't been a Weekly Update since B.net went dark. Those "Blogs" on the bottom of the front page are hardly Weekly Updates. I refuse to call them such until they learn where to correctly put their Weekly Updates on the front page.

I originally joined B.net to make a thread about the Burial Mounds Glitch. I stayed because of the community. The community is still here bigger and better than ever, so there's no real reason for me to leave.

              • The forums were very much like Halo 3 when playing ranked. The times when you win a game it's quite enjoyable to play, but when you lose it's the worst -blam!-ing noobs I melee'd you first jump backwards assassin hit me in the back y he spawn on my rockets D:< You can compare it the feeling of getting a 14 day ban for being a new member (took me a while to actually read the rules). So, to this day, as for the reasons for my lingering I can only say that were it not for the intervention of the floodians in a thread I posted in the H3 forum, I would have stayed in that forum and most likely left much sooner. But someone in The Flood told me to "get back in the H3 forum" and this made me realize that these guys have a special thing going in here. So I stayed. (different alt, different times)

              • This thread is a solid reminder of what brought you all here in the first place: The Game. The Game is the thing. It's what forms the most solid bonds. It's what made private groups thrive. It's what we need to truly drive a community.

I loved when Urk wrote but DeeJ has grown on me...like a zit that you don't want to pop ;P I lurk now, ready to open my crusty eyes and look upon the fresh community members and Destiny with a curiosity of one that has grizzlness
