Reality Check: Slavery in the US.

The first slave owner in the US* was a black man. Slavery was not about race, but about economics. A plantation owner makes more money if he doesn't have to pay his workers.
Something fun: Ancestry.com claims that Obama is a descendent of the first slave in America.
