So I've started playing the crap out of Blacklist Spy vs Merc mode and I'm quickly noticing how bad I am. Does anyone play this a lot? I just seem to get crapped on constantly and no matter what I use I can't actually see anyone until it's too late but they all seem to know where I am at all times.
Any helpful tips? Kit suggestions?

I played it a lot, but I found matchmaking to be too frustrating. Always a host migration that winds up back at the lobby... And the X-button insta-kills are ridiculous. But the motion sensor is my preferred merc device, with antiflash, mines, and adrenaline. intel suit and thermal goggles are great for spies. Just don't rely on thermals too much because you lose track of the relative amount of light near your spy.

The best advantage a spy has over a merc is height. If you can stay above him, you can set up an ambush. You should always avoid combat with mercs until you're sure you can take him out. When you're moving about the map, go slow. The merc's detectors will easily pick you up when running, and they'll intercept you and cut you down. Only go fast when you're taking out a merc or trying to get away after you've already been detected. If you're discovered, drop a flashbang and run. For mercs, always pay attention to your detectors, they're your best friend. Your other best friend is the proximity mine. Since Pandora Tomorrow, the proximity mine has been the most important piece of a merc's defense. You can use these to cover common paths spies take or to cover objectives when you aren't there. Another tip is to not run around the whole map. Patrol the general area near the objective, and try to keep a good vantage point.

As a spy use the marker ability. The stun works well to follow up with a lethal take down. As a merc use the disrupt or ability to combat cloaked spies as well as a healthy distance from targets. Also, the whole premise is all about vantage points within the environment. Find them and use them.

Another tip, abuse tour thermal goggles. I cannot tell you how many ambushes and traps I have avoided just with the thermal vision. Also as the other poster said, vantage points is key. As a merc, dont have many tips for this yet mostly because I suck as a merc atm.
