(this belongs in #community, hear me out)
So this is Progo speaking, I hate to have to blow this alt's cover, but it was going to be obvious eventually.
I got banned for 5 days [offensive content] because I saw a stupid thread in #Destiny, it was about how Destiny will fail since it is unoriginal. I responded with the dryness that is best used in such situations:
"OP is either grossly ignorant or a failed troll, neither is a good thing"
Bam, 5 days for posting offensive content. I did not violate the TOS, Code of Conduct, or post any nasty pictures. Honestly this would have never happened with the ninja's, the automated system just isn't the way to go when dealing with people who are contributing members of this site.
The reason why I am posting this in #community is because it's not a technical or support issue, I am having an issue with the way Bungie is managing their loving community, I've been here for about 3 years, posted some stupid stuff, posted some great stuff, spent dozens of hours on fan art and speculation threads, hell, I even sent Bungie a Christmas card. All of that to have their giant robotic banhammer kick my butt out of the forums for a week. (a small matter, really, but crushing for a member who has never gotten more than a warning on B.old)
The bizarre thing is that yesterday I was wondering what will happen when very active members of the community (ie. me) put enough comments in enough places that eventually they get targeted by a troll group, who all click report like maniacs, or just the 2% who are haters and click report as well, then Boom! An upright member of the community is banned without good reason by a system that was made for good, but has been overcome by evil. Little did I know it was going to happen to me within 24 hours... :|
Please reconsider the system, or at least repeal my ban,
PermeableProgo.
NOTE I talked with Foman and I have sent a PM to DeeJ, but I still want to post this so other community members can be warned.
UPDATE: Butane says he's contacted the web team. Apparently someone still has to press the "ban" button, which means that I got banned for posting "OP is either grossly ignorant or a failed troll, neither is a good thing" which is strange since DeeJ has said that we gamers are a passionate bunch, so either I got carpet banned or someone figured I needed a break. But how is it that my cynical post got banned, while I still see people saying "die -blam!-"? (seriously, I received a death threat from Secular Sevens because they didn't like my take on their logic, none of them are banned as far as I know)
Somethings a wee bit off, webteam, please fix it.
Or just bring back warnings.

It wasn't anything posted that caused us to ban you. If I were everyone, I'd be extremely cautious about posting in public group threads for a bit.
-
Edited by Butane: 9/16/2013 3:44:20 AMBelieve it or not.... this is actually kind of a technical issue now, or at least an unintended effect of a feature. Like I said, I can't remove bans of those who were affected, but we've contacted the web team.
-
So I am going on the assumption that it was a public group thread and somebody in that group banned you and the ban carried to the mains. Am I close?
-
Wow, I usually dont condone people on b.net naming and attempting to shame others in posts (seems a bit childish and counterproductive to me), but this sounds like a good case of naming the half wit you offended and his group. People like that are just creeps - they do the same in mutiplayer games - cheat.
-
Okay... Now that its today (and not yesterday) this whole thing really makes a lot more sense. K saw that thread yesterday (it was yesterday right) with all the gay porn and I was sooo confused. Now that I know it was a scumbag admin... Anyways, glad you got unbanned! :) You'd think they would have realized that you weren't at fault seeing as that guy did it to pretty much everyone. Whatever.
But you owe me one for starting the campaign to get you unbanned
-
I'm unbanned, thanks folk!
But how is it that my cynical post got banned, while I still see people saying "die -blam!-"?
I agree, I do report things I run across where someone is being flagrantly offensive, but feel very much that I am in the minority when it comes to doing so. These individuals seem to always be either given a 'by' from the other forum goers or just ignored. But you took on a new(er) group of people who are not all acquainted with all this, and will use the tools at their disposal for they actually want to do something to clean up what they see as offensive. Poplar opposites. That is one of the reasons I do not care for this new moderation system. Plus the ability to make a new identity in mere minutes and come right back to offending people makes it even more broken. Not that you did this here, but the trash trolls do.
-
They really need to tweak the system for banning. Things have been weird lately. Sorry to hear you got banned Progo. IT IS TOTALLY UNFAIR. paid for progo and my dignity
-
Thats BS,Bungie fix it ASAP !!!!!!
-
Ya my other account "Orizzle" got banned last night, and I have no idea why?
-
Hmm... I have seen so many people post worse stuff. This seems like one of those situations where you are supposed to mute the person instead of banning them.
-
If you were banned for five days with a comment like that, I should be banned from the real world for the rest of eternity. I don't believe you should've been banned for such a trivial matter, and you have the right to be annoyed at such a thing. The annoying qualities of a troll are something that should be eradicated and discarded and it would be nice if Bungie would look at a user's profile before banning them, not just taking the word of an uneducated fool. As someone who has seen the amazing fanart you have posted, it bugs me to know such a thing has happened to you while the lesser part of the community can run free and rampant. Ugh. People.
-
This has happened to me as well once, it really should be fixed. I would prefer if the ninjas had a bit more power so things could be balanced out, even if they needed to add a few more just to balance it out.
-
Edited by Butane: 9/16/2013 3:29:55 AMEdit Edit, I was wrong. What did I say again? Anyway, no one aside from Ninjas or Admins has any influence over who gets a ban on this site. Nothing else is automated except for the ban length, which is based on an increasing system. We still have to actually click buttons before anyone gets banned on this site for any reason. And no, I can't remove a ban. Edit 3: I'll look into it.
-
Let me preface this by saying that if for some reason the automated feature isn't working as intended or if anywhere in the process there was a lapse in judgement related to the ban, that sucks and I hope it gets resolved. That being said, this
The bizarre thing is that yesterday I was wondering what will happen when very active members of the community (ie. me) put enough comments in enough places that eventually they get targeted by a troll group, who all click report like maniacs, or just the 2% who are haters and click report as well, then Boom! An upright member of the community is banned without good reason by a system that was made for good, but has been overcome by evil.
is absolutely ludicrous. No one is going to be punished for being "very active" and to suggest that that's the reason for your current troubles instead of what you decided to post is delusional. From what I understand, the system tips off the ninjas after a certain threshold has been reached. That means if things were working properly, enough users found your content to be offensive enough to go out of their way to report. Furthermore, your post reeks of narcissism. I have no idea who you are and I imagine that's the case for most users here - to suggest that there's some concerted effort of trolls or "haters" out to get you for being you instead of simply owning up to the fact that you posted something people might find offensive is, frankly, childish.
-
I got banned for 5 days too! This is an outrage, and I'm actually being serious.
-
Edited by MastaSin: 9/16/2013 2:17:13 AM
I even sent Bungie a Christmas card.
Wait, you think you can bribe Bungie with a Christmas card and not get banned? That was your first mistake, you have to bribe Jerome and DeeJ with some rum.
-
thought it was very strange that you were banned. what did Foman say?
-
yeah dude, I have seen people post a lot of nasty crap on here and I don't see THEM getting banned. You're not one of the bad apples on here. You shouldnt have been banned.
-
The term "offensive" doesn't just relate to something disturbing or graphic, it also means something insulting. You insulted someone who had a differen opinion than you and they were offended enough to report you so I suppose that resulted in a ban. The whole "play nice" thing isn't just a suggestion, it's a rule. Bungie moderates this site how they see fit and they give the ninjas a right to enturpriate (I probably spelled that wrong) the rules they have volunteered to uphold. From what I've seen posted about how bans work in a thread similar to this one, bans are also locked in now meaning there is no way to appeal them.
-
Progo, banned? The -blam!- is wrong with this place? On an unrelated note, did you ever finish that sword?
-
I am hopeful for a new Waaahmbulance thread. You got banned, it's five days, not the end of the world. Also, you don't get banned because of several reports, the mods make the final choice.
-
Edited by Froggert: 9/16/2013 1:50:39 AMLol Progo you got banned? I *come up with witty comments that no one seems to enjoy* and nothing ever happens to me. I guess you're just... unlucky *shitpost (and people actually do enjoy it because even my shitposting is 10x better than what most people put on here)
I made 100 alts and reported you with them, trololololololol
