Watch YouTube tutorials! Mess around with Blender if you're too worried about the difficulty/complexity of Maya.

You learn to retain everything about the program so much easier when you teach yourself. And if you're like me, you'll simply enjoy messing with new software to see how it works. And don't get overwhelmed if you can't figure out how things work. It's why you're taking a class for it; to learn.
