It's been like 7 years since it came out so I think the excitement's worn off for now.
Honestly the first time I played it I was blown away, amazed. The reviews were all very high, loads of 9s and 10s, people were hailing it as one of the greatest games ever.
Now... eh. Not saying it's bad, but I realized that I didn't... like it as much. The gameplay was ok, but it was too badly paced. The only good gameplay levels were the first two acts. Act 3 was AWFUL. Even worse is the fact that you can't even just run straight to the hideout, you HAVE to follow him.

One of the best games I have ever played.
-
it needs to come to x-bone or PC.

Never played it.

It was the first MGS I had ever played back in 2008, so it was all new for me and I thought it was impressive as hell. But now that I've played MGS2 and beautiful MGS3, I can see it's not exactly the best in the series. That said, I still think it's a good game and I wouldn't mind playing again at all.

It was disappointing, to say the least. And this is coming from a guy who loves MGS2. Also, nanomachines.

Edited by OmegaCircuit: 8/27/2013 2:23:46 AMThe story is probably the worst of the (Solid) series. The gameplay is good, but poorly utilized, like you said. Act 1 & 2 were good. I hate how Act 3 has this big open dark atmospheric city and you're confined to tracking one guy, and the other half is the bike chase segment. Act 4 is just wasted potential and a disappointment, since there's no proper guards, just dwarf gekkos, and if I remember right, there's loads of parts where there's no stealth. Then Act 5 barely even has any gameplay, though the first section was pretty good. Of course, the cutscene to gameplay ratio is just plain ridiculous in MGS4. There was easily a longer amount of time spent on the cutscene sequences than on the actual gameplay. I voted it could be worse on the poll, because it definitely has its moments.

Best game ever created!
huehuehuehuehuehuehuehuehuehue
Cutscenes are too long. Especially after Act 2. Act 3 was the most boring part of the game. Act 4 and 5 were amazing and well done. I get that he's trying to explain the story but he really could have cut down on the cutscenes a lot. There were like... 10 hours of just cutscenes. It's pretty much an interactive movie at that point.

It's definitely one of the best games ever, I don't get why people complain about the long cutscenes I personally like them a lot

I really enjoyed the story parts. I do have to admit, I was disappointed of all the retconning that went on. Especially the nanomachines. I thought the epilogue was very nice though.

It was great, however MGSV>All

Never played it.

Beat is once. Didn't like it that much. NanomachinesNanomachinesNanomachinesNanomachinesNanomachinesNanomachinesNanomachinesNanomachinesNanomachinesNanomachinesNanomachinesNanomachinesNanomachinesNanomachines, etc. We learned that a person ran on water, ran up a steel grifter, dodged bullets, survived several shots to the head, etc. ALL do to...Nanomachines. Worst plot device ever. Oh and ocelot wasn't a medium, he just went through advanced psycho therapy to literally become liquid snake....WHAT?!

Amazing on the first playthrough, however the flaws started to creep up on subsequent ones. And I have come to the conclusion that it's not that great.
-
Scottus4 convinced me that it wasn't all that great. Though I still think Act 5 was the worst act. You have like 30 seconds of gameplay in between 3209480239 hour cutscenes.

DAT FINAL BOSS

Act 1, 2, 4 and 5 - Awesome Act 3 - Meh, but I love that cutscene at the end of the act. So overall, awesome really. Love the game equally with all the other Metal Gear Solid games
-
Pretty good awesome :)

That flint lock rifle makes anything bad about the game worth it.
