From what I've seen, the core gunplay of Destiny isn't particularly unique. It honestly looks like the same generic ADS filled borefest that CoD, Battlefield and countless other modern shooters use.
-
Too tired to care if you are just trying to screw with people, but really if you don't like ADS then just fire from the hip.
-
Edited by Guru: 8/21/2013 12:38:18 AMReally? Really? Really? What on Earth could anyone possibly do to change ADS and how an FPS works. You aim, you shoot. Now what could anyone do to change that. Tell me. What would you do then if it's SO generic to change it and make it unique.
-
Agreed. Destiny looks meh. Not buying it on my X1 as of now.

Edited by Stormy: 8/22/2013 2:52:28 AMOk lets be honest here dude.... Pretty much every FPS game has ADS, its not boring, even if it was, Destiny is going to be AWESOME for gameplay, come on.. your mowing down 4/5 races of aliens? with exotic weapons? 100% CUSTOMIZABLE CHARACTERS? seriously dude, My point is even with this so called "ADS borefest" the game is going to be great, you haven't even played it yet and your complaining about ADS? Come on.... Destiny is, in my eyes, a insanely fun futuristic Skyrim.

Well, there is three types of First person gunplay I've played with: 1. Halo. Crisp hip-fire pwnage, with minimal, but useful, scoping. 2. Call of Duty/military shooters as a whole. Fast ADS, increase accuracy when so, and hip-fire you can improve in various ways. 3. Borderlands/Battlefield(?)/Dead Island. Lousy ADS speed usually, wavy hip-fire, and overall bland/inaccurate/un-fun gunplay. Halo General Gunplay Rating: Fun, accurate, with perhaps a little less depth than someone would like, and easily mastered. CoD General Gunplay Rating: Fast, slightly inaccurate, and about medium fun, with lots of tricks to learn, and guns to master. Borderlands General Gunplay Rating: Bland, with very wavy and slightly unresponsive/useless ADS. The gunplay is fun because of the damage stats and the unique weaponry, but mechanic wise, lackluster. Secret Option 4, Destiny. Crisp looking ADS and hip-fire, with fun weaponry effects. A hybrid of the three. That's just my 2¢, but seriously, I feel Destiny's gunplay looks great, and that no one will really know what it's like until we use it. And if this is a troll thread... I was playing BL2 today and I had an electric handgun. As I was mowing down bandits and reloading I was reminded of the E3 gameplay demo when the warlock was using his revolver to send Fallen souls into the black...and I am okay with that.
-
I don't get why people complain about games not having "unique gunplay"? I mean, seriously, how many ways can you shoot a gun? The only 3 distinctly different styles I can think of are: ADS (CoD, BF3) No-ADS (Halo) Projectile-based (Tribes Ascend)
-
Absolutely agreed, and I've honestly been saying this for a while. I don't know if you're trolling, but I'm not for a change. inb4butthurtfanboysunacceptingofotheropinions

At what point is it too early to say that a shooter is generic? Or a borefest? Pull out the Nintendo 64 and play perfect dark zero. It's crazy to me how insignificant people make video games seem to be.
-
Edited by CaptKrunch: 8/21/2013 3:06:06 PMNot sure if you noticed, but you can still hip fire accurately. ADS is not going to be a needed feature to aim just like in cod. It's just there for some extra assistance.
-
For the sake of argument can you provide for us an example of a modern shooter that uses a truly unique system? Genuine question.
-
Im pretty sure all shooters use guns like that, save for the iron sights and bloom, which vary from shooter to shooter
-
And you are a clueless man who just got muted
-
Guns are pretty generic; point, shoot. What were you hoping to see?
-
Somebody needs more gameplay featuring new weapons!

Edited by Valistriant: 8/21/2013 11:34:11 AMWell like many have said Bungie isn't making Destiny's gunplay one of its selling points. Sure it may not be the most innovative thing you seen 2013 but it will do it job and help us enjoy the other 99.99% of the game we don't even know about yet. I do understand your feelings though. With as much hype as this game is getting people make it seem like everything about this game is revolutionary, creative, and has features the likes of which have never been seen before. Just you being here shows that you have interest in Destiny so I like to think of this as a way for you to vent your frustrations since you want this game to be as great as we all do. - Be Brave

There's a lot we haven't seen yet. Not sure how many different ways people can make a FPS with guns different from each other in the manner you describe. 1. Pull Trigger, Let Go, Repeat 2. Hold Trigger, Let Go, Repeat I'm sure Bungie will surprise us, so please hold judgement until we see more.
-
what? Were you expecting it to be like this?
-
Edited by SoulWielder: 8/20/2013 4:39:52 PMWell it's a good thing that the core gunplay is not the core selling point of Destiny.
-
Give me three examples of shooters where the gun play mechanics aren't generic that have been made after 2005. Bonus points if at least one of them is popular and not Halo. The reality of it is, it's incredibly difficult to make unique gun play mechanics because there aren't many directions to go to. It's the rest of the game that will decide how unique it is.
-
Yeah... well I think we're counting on everything else to uplift it. We'll see.

Dude, Bungie fanboys will probably flame you.
