So if you can't tell by the options, I am playing Mass Effect 3. I know I am late and it's kind of a bummer because I have had full exposure to the controversy about the ending. But I have the extended cut so it should be better. But it makes it harder as the game goes along to decide how you are going to end the game. I just finished the mission on Thessia and with how intense it's getting, I know I am nearing the end. I am conflicted about all the endings and I will explain why. Needless to say, spoilers ahead.
I have a problem with synthesis because that was what Saren promoted in Mass Effect 1 and he was indoctrinated by Sovereign. I have a problem with control because that's what the Illusive Man wants. I can't stand the guy, even in ME 2. And I just learned on Thessia that Kai Leng is indoctrinated thanks to the prothian VI so it's not a long shot to think that the Illusive man is as well. And then comes the last option, destroy synthetics. I have a problem with this for a lot of reasons, Legion was amazing and he sacrificed himself (in my game) to give the geth independence. I also ended the Geth-Quarians war and they are rebuilding much faster with help from the geth. I also can't think of destroying EDI especially now that she and Joker have a thing. So I don't know what I am going to choose. What did you choose and why?
TL;DR I have conflicts with all 3 Mass Effect 3 endings and I am not about to tell the star child no and doom the galaxy. What did you choose and why?
EDIT: I just finished the game and I have posted my thoughts in a new thread.

Im pretty sure if you have high GR and troop numbers you beat the reapers if you say no to star child, all other endings are shit.

Edited by The Random: 8/14/2013 2:37:07 PMThe way I see it, the Control ending is the paragon option and the Destroy ending is the renegade option. With the control ending, you don't have to wipe out all other synthetic life to stop the Reapers and you don't have to use synthesis to alter everyone's very nature. Everyone survives and everyone is unaltered. Shepard becomes the guardian of the galaxy. (Paragon) With the destroy ending, you sacrifice all synthetic life to ensure the destruction of the Reapers. EDI and the Geth are no more, technological advancement among the races has been stunted, but in the end you have neutralized the threat. You got the job done, no matter the cost. (Renegade)

I chose destroy every time. Not because I liked the option, but because it was so clear that Hack Walters over there wanted us to choose something different by contriving as many stupid scenarios as possible. And by every time, I mean all two times, because I am not touching that game again. inb4idiotsthatthinkthatit'sonlybecauseoftheending

Dammit I picked control but ingame I picked destroy. So I pretty much accidentally killed the Quarian's then killed the geth by choice.

That's the whole point. People all wanted an easy evil/good/grey option at the end, but that's not realistic. The choice is meant to be tough, no matter what you decided along the way there is a compromise when you make the final choice. I couldn't kill all the AI that I just freed. Do I control or synth every time.

I chose synthesis because it seemed to be the 'best' since it screws less people over. In all honesty I hate all the ending.

Edited by OmegaCircuit: 8/14/2013 12:38:45 PMI just shoot him. In the Extended Cut, I was surprised and rather amused to find that they programmed doing that to trigger the refusal ending.

On my first time through I chose destroy, that's because that's what I set out to do and the other options just sounded like bullshit. On my second time through when EC came out I chose "no" to see what it was like and it was really stupid and lame.

Edited by Smarkdow: 8/14/2013 4:19:27 AMDestroy, since it's the least of a thematic "F U" of all the choices.

Edited by Sandtrap: 8/14/2013 4:14:46 AMI stuck to my guns. For the whole series Shep went out with one goal in mind, and those who followed him did too. It's a dilemma, and a painful one at that. And although it's not fair to the newly and fully sentient Geth, or EDI, that's the choice you make. Do you remove the threat once and for all? Save the lives of a few, or take them so that all may live? In my opinion it was the best and only ending to pick, because it wasn't just clear cut, you press the button you win. You lose the Geth, basically after helping them become truly something else, and you do it with your own hands. You kill EDI, who over the course of the series progressed, evolved in her own way. You destroy the relays, majorly damage the citadel, and a good chunk of technology in the process, effictively stunting the galaxy until they can re-establish things and work on the mass relay issue. The geth and quarians are living proof of the starchild's foolish assumptions, and such things like peace can be done again. No victory comes without sacrifice, and the question is, was the sacrifice worth it?
