Politically Republicans back during Lincoln's time are Democrats today. Communism works, but not in actual practice. Socialism works, but in very, very strict moderation. Entertainment Venusaur > All other Starter Pokemon of Gen I. Treeko > All Starting Pokemon of all gens. Dark Souls is easy. Fable II and III had potential to be a good game. Sexuality Legs > Everything else. I prefer to be on the bottom. Threesomes are not as great as people think.

 • Apparently, it is to the official Republican facebook page, and one that's very wrong if I didn't go to "high school US history". Basically, they're telling me to disregard the three poly sci classes I took, one in a university in Hawaii, one in California over the summer, and my community college.

 • It isn't really even a matter of history, it's just logic. At the most basic level, it can be said that conservatives want things to stay the same, and liberals want things to move forward (or at least change). The liberals of the 1800s didn't want slavery anymore, the conservatives wanted to keep it. It isn't a hard concept to grasp.

 • That's what I've been telling them, but apparently, I have been, as one person stated on there: "brainwashed by the liberal communists". The university in Hawaii I went to is private, so there's no funding from the government, just the students. The UC I went to last summer is apparently communist. The community college professor I studied under last semester is apparently a liberal communist. I like to debate with people, but if they manage to derp in logic just because someone doesn't agree with them, it's not a debate, it's more of a "Why am I even talking to a person such as this?" Which, that question I always ask myself after about 5 minutes when I visit the Official Republicans page on Facebook.

 • Well, facebook isn't exactly the best place for an intelligent debate.

 • Neither are tea party republicans. I can handle moderate Republicans, and anyone who has a different view, but I can't handle someone who states their view, says yours is wrong and then puts in an ad hominem at the end for the frosting on the cake. The same thing I see on facebook is the exact same thing I hear in this town, which is one of the secondary reasons I want to get out of this place. The only quality places in this town are the UC and the community college. You have a good point though.

 • Oh, it happens outside of facebook for you too? I'm sure that there are some tea partiers that wouldn't scream communist at the first mention of an idea not ultra conservative. But only some.

 • This is one post that is pretty much what I experience on a near daily basis. Yes, I live in a heavily Conservative town, so they tend to keep traditional values. I can handle Conservative people. I've met tons that are knowledgeable in the subject they talk about and I learn from them. However, tea party conservatives (Which infest this town), are the ones I cannot stand at all. Those are the ones making headlines that make all conservatives look bad. I like to voice my opinion in the college as well as outside of the college. I get tons of flak for it, but most of it is based off of research done as well as what I learned in the college systems.

 • That's pretty much how everyone in my family besides my parents are. My grandparents, cousins, aunts, and uncles are all stupid, homophobic, racists. It sucks. Also, didn't you say that you are a Muslim at one point? How does that go over in your town? I imagine it isn't very good.

 • No, I'm not Muslim. I studied the Qu'ran briefly while in Hawaii for an essay comparing religions and pretty much saying that the war between these religions is bullshit. I was raised as a Roman Catholic and I would pretty much consider myself a die-hard conservative up until high school ended. Over the course of 3 years, my views of everything has changed dramatically. I used to be against gay marriage, but now I'm in favor for it. I used to be heavily against the legalization of marijuana, now I want to see it legalized to have a boost in our economy. I thought my religion was right and everyone else's was wrong, but my study of different religions for my world history class made me open my mind. I would consider myself a Deist now. I still believe in a Supreme Being due to my faith and how I was raised, but I don't believe that he/she/it has a direct influence over everything else. That's why at Superbowl parties or other things like that, I laugh on the inside when people pray to make their team win.

 • Oh, I'm sorry. It must have been someone else that said that. :P I guess it is true that education tends to make people more liberal.
