So it turns out that some of the core features of Xbox One will require you to have a Gold account.

Are console makers selling us a cool gadget at a discount just so they can suck away at our wallets? Or is it reasonable to pay money for access to 'plus features' on something you've already paid for in full?

Yeah but it doesn't matter, you need Gold to use the system. if you don't have Gold it's the same as being offline.

Playstation plus is only for mutliplayer. But not for party chat, or anything else really.
