In Joseph Staten's "Story VS Persistent Game" Critical Path Project, he talked about the analyzation regarding a story that players are going to keep wanting to come back too over the years. Bungie has been pushing for 30 seconds of fun since Halo CE. However, this time it's going beyond the console due to technology advancements.
An online intrusive world where players are the creators and story tellers, where players create their own chapters and share their experiences throughout the world. But what I'd like us to explore is how this changes the way we know "Story" in a first person shooter.
Think back to ODST in 2009, we had a different element of story unfold before us known as Sadies Story. For those that didn't take time to explore, this was unlocked through audio logs that represented another story that happened alongside the ODST story.
In Destiny, should Bungie carry forth a similar style of story telling for a persistent world? Rather, what if we should share our own stories in logs for others to read somehow throughout Destiny? Making our mark on a certain territory to let others know that we have traveled to the far depths of a certain planet, conquering all obstacles leading up that point. Is that the story you want to tell alongside with Destiny's main plot?
