What really disappointed me about Halo 4's campaign is that it didn't flesh out Master Chief's relationship with the Spartan IVs. It would have been really interesting to see if Master Chief really felt outdated compared to the newer Spartan IVs, or superior to them. What did MC think of them and vise versa? It would have been cool to see the Spartan IVs be all cocky and then just have it all blow up in their faces when MC saves their lives or what not. What do you guys think?

Any Spartan II or Spartan III would absolutely annihilate any Spartan IV. Except for maybe Thorne. He'd put up a good fight.
-
Agreed. Spartan 4s just replaced the marines from the old games, except they weren't nearly as interesting to fight along side.

This Dr. Halsey iPad cinematic summed it up pretty good. Also at the beginning she says"... most importantly don't underestimate, him." In-game Chief says "asking is not my strong suit." to Cortana. So when Halsey tests the asking spartan what he thinks of his enemy his "just killing machines" answer indicate that the very standard of the super solder she established might have been weaning -- John never answered it that way, ever, we do what we have to do for humanity (along those lines). The episode in Halo legends Be Human was on the marine level and answered the soulless soldier vs. human disobeying orders in spectacular fashion. I hate how they had to make the Halo IV marine so mediocre to make up for the lack of character development. Some humor at the very least. The man talk at the end of Halo IV got way too funky, but I guess Master Chiefs silence kind of saved it. To me John looked like he wanted to be left alone and not talk to this boy scout, savoring time to think about Captain Keyes, Johnson, and all the good men on his journey. (flashbacks would have been amazing) Halo got way to damn nerdy, instead of keeping it simple; you now must read a volume of books just to understand the game. Less is more. Those little moments are the best and you can have a lot of them spread out, like firefly for instance. Now I'm just ranting. *grumbles*

They seem to respect him and think highly of his abilities and see him as superior to themselves, but you are right the feelings both ways were not altogether clearly displayed. My opinion? The Chief will always be unique due to his history and roots with Dr. Halsey and the program altogether, from the very beginning, being treated different than the rest because he stood out. He will always remain superior in my opinion. Halsey had a thing for him and made it happen.

I think 343i really went into the whole Spartan-IV thing without thinking too much about it. Prior to Halo 4, Spartan-IVs were seen in the works of fan fiction and idle speculation. I mean naturally they make sense, normal, everyday people finally given the armor and enhancements of Spartans. We started with adults in the ORION Project, which ended in limited success, to kids who had a higher chance of succeeding and then through years of research we were finally able to bring back the Spartans to their roots. However, they just happened. Both the S-IIs and S-IIIs got books and other forms of media dedicated to their origins, the S-Is are more behind-the-scenes sadly, but the S-IVs were introduced in a ViDoc about the multiplayer and just show up in the Campaign with Chief not so much as giving a damn as opposed to someone like Kurt-051 in Ghost of Onyx being awed by the prospect of thousands of new Spartans. Halo: Initiation looks like it will expand on their origins and such, but shouldn't have that been before the game came out so we could've gotten a better chance to know these Spartans? It is the same problem the Ur-Didact had in Halo 4, all the good stuff that makes him an amazing character and terrifying villain was left in Halo: Silentium, released 5 MONTHS after Halo 4 came out.

Chief the librarian made him taller so he can kick more covenant and promethean ass.
-
Chief wins cause i play as the chief
-
Do we actually know the full extent of the IV's augmentations? People in this thread are dick measuring each of the SPARTAN programmes, yet Halo 4 never explicitly went into further detail on the SIV's other than "well they're consenting adults now." For all we know, they could just be an extension of the III's with slightly better tech and less experience.
-
1. MC doesn't compare himself to his allies. 2. Chief would not feel outdated after all he was surprised but not disappointed to see Spartan III's on Reach. 3. You hear cortana say "Let's show these guys what a real Spartan can do" but MC didn't say a word and did his job, so he does not feel superior. 4. Also the Spartan IV's have no reason to feel cocky to somebody they know full well could kick their asses without even trying, also Chief did save them when they bumped into Lasky.
-
considering the Spartan 4s stupid AI and that there just marines with armour then master chief would beat em all
-
Another note....the only interaction you see is when Palmer says to Chief, "I thought you'd be taller." And then that was it.
-
Master Chief can kill a dozens of S-IVs with ease in the campaign.
-
Chief will roflstomp any Spartan IV 1v1 in terms of skill, but he alone can't compare to all the Spartan IVs.
-
The S-2s and even the S-3s are far superior to S-4s in terms of individual performance. But S-4s are superior due to their numbers and effectiveness.
-
I would have liked to see the IV's poke fun at Chief for being outdated, only to blow their minds away in some crazy unimaginable way leaving them speechless/babbling, and have him not say a word and as he walks away. /FanboyWishes

Edited by Infiltrat0rN7: 8/6/2013 5:05:47 PMSpartan IV's are just augmented ODST's with shittier armor Master Chief would rekt them
-
Let's put it this way, Spartan IIs and IIIs are the real thing, and IVs are a cheap ripoff from walmart.
-
"You want to replace him." "THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT YOU, THE REPLACED YOU!" Yeah, no relationship there. They're supposed to be his replacements. Of course they'd be stoic and try to deflect his appearance with humor.
-
"Hi everyone, it's just me, Master Chief, savior of mankind. Well, actually I saved you all like, three times now. And I've been gone for about four years now. But hey, I'm back :)" "I thought you'd be taller." Fuck you Palmer.
-
I think the S-IIs and even the S-IIIs would have been superior to S-IVs because they were trained since birth.
-
So, you wanted chief to hang out with the other Spartans as the didact attacks earth? The Spartans are there to do their job, not dilly dally about. Plus their were missions in the game were you fought with spartan 4s. Examples: Infinity, the mission with the Mammoth ( I forgot the name), and the beginning of the six mission.
-
My question is why isn't no one like "hey look its the master chief!!" instead there like *looks at John-117* "oh its you....."
-
Whilst the S-IV's may not be his family like the remaining S-II's, they are still Spartans. Just because one Spartan survives a number of battles does not make him superior. Sure, the MC has accomplished some great things, but he did not do them alone. He worked in a team or with a partner.
-
For some reason idk what I just do t really like the spartan 4's it takes away from MC badass ness
-
Such interactions would have taken away from the core focus, Chief and Cortana's relationship. They've got a story to tell with only so much time to tell it. The relationship between SII and IV will be more fleshed out in Halo 5, possibly
-
Are we talking Majestic-tier Spartan IVs or Crimson-tier Spartan IVs?
