when these reach human and above levels of intelligence (as in being able to process emotions) should they be allowed equal rights? throughout history people from all walks of life have had to fight for basic rights, women, black people, different religions etc.
I solemnly hope that when a human is able to classify a robot as a 'friend' that they will receive basic rights too.
You heard it here first folks. Lukeanatr supports rights for AI.

Humans understand.

When they are on par with humans in terms of intelligence, they will just start improving themselves.
-
Sapience would be hard to measure, especially if it's programmed to imitate sapience.
-
Yes. And hopefully they will be smart enough to wipe us out. Regardless, AIs deserve rights.

Does this unit have a soul?

Reminded me of this.

Kara comes to mind when reading this thread.

Nope. And they should never be programmed to have emotions.
-
If they are sophisticated enough to want rights, they have the right to have them in my opinion.
-
I support it, when they get on our level.

This is how stuff like the matrix starts

Edited by Ttasmmv: 8/2/2013 10:11:32 PMRobots can't think, and I don't think they'll ever be able to, so we need not worry about AI rights. (:- )

Of course not. Does a pig have rights? Does a worm have rights?
-
They should. I'd say robots deserve human rights more than most humans do <.<

Let's work on getting Sangheili rights first

Men are machines.

they should have no rights. they are not man, they are machine. WE should not give them emotions, because feelings are a step closer to free thinking. That is a bad idea.
