"On behalf of the people of the State of Israel, I wish to express our tremendous joy at the birth of your child - a royal baby, born in the most democratic country on earth.
from Israeli President Shimon Peres
So....
Somebody falling out with the USA? What do you think, do you agree with him?
-
So... why do people ITT think democracy=freedom?
-
Just wait till we blow you guys off the map :)
-
NZ is better than both.
-
The Jews need someone to protect them or they won't be able to play victim when they talk shit on their neighbours. If America stops they'll kiss the ass of the next biggest predominately white country that can influence events in the Middle East.
-
Somebody falling out with the USA?
LOL hardly.
-
Israelis also accused us of being anti-Semitic so.... They're just being polite paul
-
I don't see how a country that still has a royal family can be regarded as democratic. Those two ideas seem to be polar opposites.
-
Sorry, no country in the EU can claim any semblance of Democratic rule any longer. When some politico in Brussels can tell an Irish farmer how to package his potatoes, when that Irish farmer nor anyone else in Ireland has voted for that politico, you have something other than representative democracy. The fact now is the people who head the EU were not voted by anyone other than other politicians like themselves, and thus they are completely unaccountable for their decisions. It works like this: You vote for your local politico, who then votes for the ruling Government and leader (in a Parliamentary system). That Government or leader then appoints other politicos to go the EU to then agree with the politicos in other countries to pass regulations that effect you personally. You don't like those decisions. Can you vote out those who made the rules? No. You can only vote out your local politico who had nothing to do with those rules. That is NOT my idea of democracy at least. At best it is politicocracy. A government of politicians for politicians.

I thought the UK was several countries, or somethign like that? Most democractic eh? Can they own whatever fire arms they want? No.. my point exactly. To be the most Democractic.. you also have to be the moswt free from government control, oppression, etc.
>bans porn >democratic pick one
>bans porn >democratic pick one
-
That's not a good thing.
-
>having "royal" anything >democratic
-
Why does it seem like many people automatically equate democracy with "good" or "awesome"?
-
>People have to pay a tax to a bunch of royalty that does jack shit. >Democratic Maybe I simply don't know how the system works and you can educate me here. But if I was British, I would be pissed over that.

Edited by Lord Commissar: 7/23/2013 4:44:04 PM>2013 >Actually taking what foreign dignitaries say as fact when they visit another country Anyone with a half a brain would realize that he's just buttering you up so you'll be more receptive to him, which in turn makes it that much more likely that you'll give in to his demands. Something this mundane really didn't need a thread dedicated to it.

Democracy is dictatorship of the majority.
-
Okay, the UK's more "democratic" than us. Your point?
-
1. I really don't understand the hype over the royal baby. 2. Britain is definitely more democratic than the US, but I think that there isn't a country on earth that can claim being the "most democratic." Democracy, in and of itself, is flawed. Unless you only have two political parties, the government will never have the support of the majority. And when you do have just two, you are limiting the people and their choices by only offering them two political parties. I'm sure that there are ways to fix this, but it would take major reforms. In the meantime, I don't think that any country can claim to be the most democratic. Someone shouldn't succeed at something just because every one else is doing a miserable job. I don't remember the exact quote, but I think it was Churchill who said, "Democracy is the worst form of government. It's a shame the others have already been tried."

That's a fucking joke.

I love Europe

It's more democratic than the US at least. But it's not the most democratic country on earth. Nordic countries ftw!

Laughable at best.

Figures this would be a Lonepaul thread.
