The Bungie Community is not doing enough

I'll jump on the bandwagon. If you detect a way in which this forum could be a better place, take action. Hide a topic. Mute a user. The controls are in your hands. When you complain about Ninja inaction, our heads explode. It's like watching a train roar toward a raven with a collapsed bridge. The conductor's hand is on the brakes, and he's screaming for someone to stop this thing! We have put you in control of your own destiny. We have lead you to water. Drink! You need to let go of the time when the Ninjas were judge, jury, executioners. Please act on your own impulses, and moderate this forum to your own liking.

Started a new topic: Who else here is never going to use the mute feature?(59 Replies))

    • I'm seeing a reoccurring argument being brought up that seems to insinuate one person muting another is not enough, because everyone else will still continue to see the offenders posts. Firstly, you might consider that many others may not be bothered by the posts of a user you have muted. More importantly, realize that this new feature is available to ALL users so they can create the experience they wish to have. If someone is truly bad enough, people will mute the offender and before long that individual may begin to question why no one is engaging him socially in either a positive or negative manner... Not long after it will likely dawn on the user that no one cares to see their contributions and it best be time to start acting like less of a tool. A LOT of you seem to also be forgetting about the amount of issues that were had with Moderators banning people. What is it? When the Moderators can ban people it's too much and unfair? But when they no longer are the primary rule enforcer, they're not doing enough? Some of you are never happy. This system gives you CONTROL. It is a fair system that eliminates complaints about people being "wrongly" removed from site interaction and replaces it with an ability for everyone to be the judge of an offending user.

      • Every time I read this I kind of want to punch a baby. You have moderators, but expect everyone else to do their jobs for them. No one asked for the mute and hide options. You just gave them to us hoping you wouldn't have to do any dirty work yourselves. A couple months ago I was so excited for Destiny and was a huge fan of Bungie, but more recently things have been giving me doubts about both. Get your shit together or else your going to lose what's left of the best fan base in the world.

          • We're not doing enough? We don't work for you FYI. Moderators are supposed to deal with trolls and stuff FOR us. I'm not doing they're job. Oh and I'd mute people if there was even ONE TODO SO ON THE iOS app! Have I got my point clear? WE DO NOT WORK FOR YOU

I am doing my part in muting, I still feel the old school need of going to the mods though. All this new power hasn't registered in my mind yet. I will do better DeeJ, I promise. And "you know me, when I make a promise..."

                • I'm inspired by this thread, just as I'm inspired by the ninjas and all that they do. I'm also glad that we have been given the tools, like you said, to lead our own destiny because now I feel like a ninja or something close to the sort which has always been a goal of mine to become. I'm always disappointed when I read people say that the ninjas are slacking because those people don't realize that we have grown as a community and shouldn't have to rely on the ninjas for every little dispute. They might be ninjas but they are still human (or at least appear to be from initial scans) and cant be everywhere at once. So thank you ninjas, thank you Bungie, and thank you web team for the tools.
You need to let go of the time when the Ninjas were judge, jury, executioners. Please act on your own impulses, and moderate this forum to your own liking.
That's like getting rid of the police and telling us that you've freed us, when in reality you've just put everyone in danger. If you have people openly discriminating against blacks, gays, and minorities, I can't have them muted. It's something offensive and now I must take the heat. I can't wait for their ban anymore, I have to take the time and let everyone else reading know that person is just an idiot so that kind of sick mindset doesn't alter a healthy, innocent one. And I've seen bigots convince people before on these forums. Do you understand the problem? About a month ago, we had a user going around spreading blatantly racist posts, explicitly saying things like, "blacks are more violent; blacks are less intelligent; whites wouldn't start riots over this," (yes, this was after the Trayvon Martin ruling). Do you remember what happened? Because no one else was doing anything and for me it would have been impossible to reply to the volley of insurmountable posts (although I tried reporting, but of course nothing happened), I was left with the one option to post an embarrassing picture of him telling him to take his racist posts down if he wanted me take his picture down. The one time the mods decided to take action was then and I was banned for it. And I'm not complaining that I was banned, I broke a rule. I'm complaining that the other user never was banned for breaking a rule. But you know what? I got him to take down his posts and I had accomplished more than the mods had done since the update, and I was at least proud of that. Actually my favorite part of that story was later on when I made an alt so I could go back to the community and demand the user be banned for racism (in a civil, non-derogatory way I might add). And then what happened? I got banned. Again. For offensive content. For the mods (with the exception of Recon) could never bare the thought that they make mistakes. Since the beginning, all I sought was that user's racism be dealt with. But you couldn't even manage to do that. This is your Code of Conduct. You should act on all rule breakers, not just the ones you choose. At least be honest and say that mods do still ban, but only on that mod's personal feelings and opinions and not according to the Code of Conduct. Because that story I have above was not a rare, single incident; I see the Code of Conduct not followed every single day. I report all forms of racism, sexism, and other bigotry and none of it is ever handled. Now the one thing I would love is an explanation, but feel free to ban me again if that's what you want.

Started a new topic: Is The #Gaming Doing Enough?(1 Reply)

                    • You're going to have to draw a line in the sand eventually. When the game launches you're going to have a multitude of people screaming for the old way of moderating due to the lack of information on how BNext now works. A possible reward system could work. Get so many likes and you receive a title or something game related that has to be maintained. Too many "valid" complaints or justified mutes strips you of avatars or board perks or imposes a limit on posting like once a day. Visuals will never sway the hardcore troll but it would certainly have effect on members seeing how many mutes a OP is receiving on a topic due to the subject matter. All terrible, but it's an interesting problem that has an answer but seems to not work nonetheless no matter how much you say it should. For those trying to curtail the trolls and impose your brand of board politics have none of you simply considers just making a private group forum based on general topics? A make shift forum since I've been told we're more like a mall or high school lol and that a official general forum (hashtag) defended by Moderators is stupid. A mall of telepathy more like it. You're never going to win against the troll in any case unless you want Waypoint and even then it's the reverse where it's filled with sycophants. The mute option is awesome but the will to make you uncomfortable is stronger. The possible option I see is form your own Private group with posting restrictions to members only and put the word out for it. You probably be surprised how many would like to escape the Offtopic section.

                      • Has the "This post has been collapsed, view at your own risk" thing been changed yet? I haven't had to mute, hide or report any threads lately as I've been sticking to private groups. I'll be happy to mute more members, but I have a feeling my experience on the website will become something akin to 20 white bars in a row asking if I want to partake in threads started by people who I do not wish to communicate with. <3, dmg
