Should capes become weathered over time?

I was reading the latest Mail Sack and when they described everyone being "reset" to fresh, clean Guardians it got me thinking. Capes and robes and, well, clothing of a flowing-cloth type nature looks awesome when it's been ripped, burned, 'sploded and weathered, but that's also a sign of having been out in the world and having gotten up to some business in your days. I think it would be awesome if new players started out with fresh and clean outfits that became more weathered as you progress through the game. The closest example I can think of would be the way scars work in Fable 2. Only instead of nasty scars across your face you're looking more awesomely rugged. Procedurally-generated-clothes-weathering, I guess. What do you guys think?

  • I think when you complete the game on higher difficulties, your character should become more rugged and battlescarred.

    • I think that this is pretty awesome except that since it's supposed to be an armor piece (exclusive to hunters?) then we will often change it anyway right ? :/

      • i know it's not quite the same thing but, i would love it to be like trophy type changes on the armour say you've killed a cartain hard boss or maybe an event get some type of ornament on your shoulders or around the armour. they had it in Warhammer online, you had i think 4 slots for cosmetics and you could put whatever trophies you had unlocked on show. Some where for killing amount of people and they looked like Army medals and some were from random events which looked more like fetishes from the monster or whatver you had done. would be cool to have this because you could easily see some accomplishments of people just from seeing that.

        I've seen this idea in use in Vindictus (Nexon MMO) Usually when your durability hits the 50% mark it shows signs of damage Swords begin to rust, Leather armor begins tearing, plate armor shows dents and rust. and the like. I'd honestly like to see the armor show signs of damage whenever it hits like 50% or something of that sort. If the damage was permanent as the plot went on it'd kinda be like Arkham Asylum/Arkham City While it'd look cool at first. It'd get old after awhile. Or just make an option to disable wear and tear. I'd like to see the wear and tear option though (Sorry I got off topic and forgot to mention where I stood on this topic)

      • I would be afraid that if this was implemented, they would tie it to a durability stat and it would affect all armor and weapons. "Oh crap! Titan-Bob just got his greaves blown off! Wipe! RRUUNNN!!" I don't want to have to watch and see if Titan-Bob gets his greaves blown off.

      • Maybe you could take the time in the tower to clean your armor, capes, clothing, maybe even guns to make them more shiny (not necessarily but you get my point) and it would be like a mini game (maybe) and you could like, pick up the cleaning utensils with left trigger or L2 and scrub with R2 or right trigger.

          Wear and tear til you get to freshen up back at base, hit a certain point and aspects wear can become permanent.. optionally. I like it. People would look and think "woah hes been out in the sticks for a while!" Come to think ofit, the dirt would be relevant. to the area you're. exploring, like snow buildup. for example.

        • Oh please for the love of all things let them. I doubt it, I guess it would be a real hazzle to program for it. And the wear and tear has to be correct and physical, not just a progression that makes all capes look the same after some time playing.

        • I replied to a similar post several months ago about showing weathered weapons,capes and armor even interactive environments which i would love to see in this game but like always when can only speculate.

        • Of course, same with armour, so long as back at the tower you can visit a refurbish depot and look all new and shiny, this would then get rid of the dirt spectrum of armour and cape colours that seems to already surround the guardians from trailers and E3.

You unfold your last piece of gear and don your cape. The design was bright, beautiful, and beyond comparison to other works of tailoring.           • There are two problems I see with this idea: one, in Fable, scars didn't show you were 'weathered', they showed that you'd died a lot. I guess it would be cool to rip your cape every time you die, but that brings me to the second problem: after a while, there will be nothing left. What happens then? Do you just throw away the cape and buy a new one? Or does it stop degenerating after a certain point?
