The Oculus Rift team still intends to ignore the Xbox One and PS4 and focus on PC and Android, concerned that lengthening development cycles for consoles could see them left behind in virtual reality, even with the cloud’s help. “There’s no reason it can’t technically work,” Oculus Rift CEO Brendan Iribe conceded to OXM, but pointed out that “one of the concerns that we do generally have around consoles is that their life cycles are getting longer all the time.” While the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are considered powerful today, they could be seriously out-performed when it comes to VR in the next few years, Iribe argues.
I completely agree with the Rift CEO. Sure the PS4 and Xbox One are powerful(ish) today, and while PCs already greatly out perform them, a year or 2 from now, PCs will have an even bigger leap ahead of consoles, and the consoles will be stuck with the same hardware configuration for their entire life cycle (which is at least 10 years).
What are your thoughts on this?

Potential
-
It's not going to get anywhere anyway
-
Doesn't bother me either way. If PC players want to plug themselves into the Matrix that's fine with me.
-
PS4 has Project Morepheus so it's on the Xbox One that's not getting VR support...
-
Don't care about useless gimmicks anyway.
-
Anyone who buys an oculus is a lifeless neckbeard fag
-
Not 10 years lol

Edited by TopHat: 6/14/2014 6:25:34 AMYeah and android won't be out performed
seriously?
-
I am very excited about the oculus.. But it's taking quite a while to come out for us consumers. I know the more time it gets to be developed the better it will be.. But I am losing interest kinda.. Maybe mindblowing vr tech will impress me again in the future. The oculus is only the beginning.

Honestly the new consoles are not that powerful and were a huge let down for me. There's not a single reason to get them at the moment for people like me, who actually expected something good.
-
PS4 has project Morpheus if that's your cup of tea.
-
-
The fact that it's a screen pressed against someone's face doesn't seem good, but I guess it's worth a try.

Edited by Psy: 6/14/2014 8:08:26 AM>Choosing Android over Consoles for performance Ufookinwotm8? Stupid shit aside, it's not really a great loss considering that Sony is bringing out project morpheus and Facebook bought out Oculus. Obviously far more expensive PCs will outperform consoles, that's just noshitsherlock.jpg. I would just like someone to show me a PC that costs the same as a PS4 that's able to run games just as well. And won't be completely outdated within a couple of years. And I really doubt the consoles will last 10 years, that's just a silly estimate. AAAND IT'S A FECKIN NECROBUMP.

Morpheus
-
Fair enough. I'm hoping the PC Destiny port has Oculus support.
-
Talk about a necrobump...
-
PS will have Morpheus. Microsoft will probably make a deal with oculus to make it compatible with x1. If not MS will probably develop their own vr headset.
-
So? I don't care for it anyway.
-
My personal opinion is that their whole product is a gimmick, and doesn't interest me a bit. So if they want to keep it off of consoles, that's perfectly fine with me.
-
Good it's gimmicky as -blam!-.
-
My friend just ordered a developer's kit for Occulus Rift, we are getting it in August. Can't wait to try DOOM 3, Skyrim, and Minecraft with it.
-
I'm not putting much stock in VR. Partly because I don't handle it well, partly because I think it's going to fall flat on its face.
-
Aw, I prefer console gaming, I don't want to spend millions of pounds on a gaming PC just to play on the Occulus Rifting :(
-
Dang, could you imagine the kind of games developers could create using the Rift and the Kinect/Eyetoy? That would have been amazing. I guess they could still use the Kinect since there's a PC version of it. Not sure how the Eyetoy would work.
-
my thoughts are they are stupid to ignore such a large user base.
