Lol taking that Socrates quote way out of context.
Picking things up and putting them back down in an air conditioned room isn't hard. Climbing Everest is seeing what your body is capable of, not doing a few curls and chugging protein shakes.

Edited by OaklandPaintbalr: 7/19/2013 2:33:23 AMIf it wasn't hard, everyone would do it. But they don't. Why are you so quick to belittle someone else's achievement. Learning an instrument isn't hard, you're just putting your fingers on strings in an air-conditioned room. Getting an education isn't hard, you're just reading papers in an air conditioned room. Overcoming depression isn't hard, you just take some pills in an air conditioned room. Overcoming my speech impediment wasn't hard, I was just practicing breathing exercises...in an air conditioned room.

Edited by Wolvers: 7/19/2013 2:37:18 AMtfw my gym has a shit air conidtioner. Guess that means no gains.

Air conditioner sucks in my gym too. Pisses me off but I go hard as I can anyway.

Usually not a problem for me because I live in the UK, normally the weather's cool at best and raining/snowing at worst. But these last few weeks we've had a massive heatwave and it's been unbearable, I don't usually sweat when working out but lately as soon as I pick up the dumbell I'm swimming.
-
oh, you brits and your "heat waves". You guys freak out when it gets into the 80's fahrenheit, its hilarious.
-
Edited by Frasier Crane: 7/19/2013 2:35:40 AMWrong. Most people don't have the time or interest to work out. I'm not saying it doesn't take some degree of effort, but it isn't the gargantuan test of dedication you guys make it out to be. That isn't 'belittling someone else's achievement', it's acknowledging it for exactly what it is.
-
You literally just said it's only doing a few curls and chugging protein shakes. Sounds like you're belittling it pretty hard.
-
No, I was expressing how menial a thing it is when he used the Socrates quote to make it seem like some insurmountable feat worthy of everyone's respect. And honestly, that's about all I make of it. I never found it difficult to lift weights.
-
and you look like shit seems like those two things correlate
-
Edited by OaklandPaintbalr: 7/19/2013 2:53:40 AMHard work and dedication is worthy of respect. Even if its not applied to an area of life that you care about or have interest in.
-
I agree it's worthy of respect. To a certain degree. If I see someone hit an insane weight in the gym I'll have a good deal of admiration toward them, but people make it out to be so much harder than it is. Again, that doesn't mean it isn't hard. It requires effort and dedication. But not to the extent inferred from the Socrates quote. I do care about fitness. A lot. I thought you knew this. But tbh, running marathons is harder than simply having aesthetic appeal. A lot of bodybuilders are nowhere near as fit as they look.
-
Edited by OaklandPaintbalr: 7/19/2013 4:35:06 AMI can respect the first part. And I didn't mean you don't care about fitness. I meant that you don't care for bodybuilding and weightlifting.

I do thoughI love lifting. I just dpdon't like the common mentality that goes with it.

This.
