Remember when you needed all the DLC to play on most playlists?
Remember when DLC playlists were NEVER removed even if they had low populations?
Remember when you got paired up with people that had the required DLC?
Remember when BTB was fun because you played on every single large map whether it was DLC or not?
Remember when you played on maps that you paid for with your hard-earned money?
What happened to all of that? Why haven't we had a DLC restriction on EVERY playlist in Halo Reach and Halo 4? The games have been out long enough, people should have the DLC by now.
-
Holy necro! But yes dlc requirements need to come back but in a perfect world the battlefield bad company 2 dlc practices would be implemented in every game.
-
DLC restrictions should come back, it was amazing when playlists were restricted. Those that don't have the dlc tough luck, go play in the other playlists that don't require dlc then or buy the map packs that literally cost pocket change. There really is no debate for not having the dlc maps. Most players that whine about it are kids who can't afford it who either A) shouldn't even be on Halo or B) get a damn job and buy the map packs, either way they don't have dlc so their opinion in this discussion is null and void. Now that is out of the way, for the rest of us who paid for the maps we should be able to play on them guaranteed. Halo 3 BTB is DLC restricted. Halo 3 is 6 years old now. Halo 3's BTB playlist is still very much popular and full of players every time I get on it =) So whatever lame excuses 343 has for not restricting playlists in Reach and Halo 4 is a joke. They miss-manage their games so bad obviously if they dlc restricted it no one would play anymore. Maybe if they didn't do stupid crap like remove reach's only dlc playlist (which was probably the sole reason I even bother to play reach once a month or so) and make a few of the billion playlists in Halo 4 dlc restricted the players who have the dlc could actually play the dlc maps. Bungie did it right with Halo 3 cutting off non-dlc users from specific playlists. Those were premium playlists for premium members. I don't see any reason why those that didn't pay for the extra content should have any say in the matter. 343 is making another fail like they are doing with Halo 4. They are trying to cater to everyone. This doesn't work and makes for a terrible experience for everyone. 343, you can't have dlc maps for Halo 4 and not allow those that paid for them to play on them at the same time. They have to choose one or the other: no dlc to be sold or dlc restricted playlists so dlc that is sold can actually be played on.

Edited by Smarkdow: 11/21/2014 11:54:50 PMI'd prefer Halo 2's approach to DLC restrictions. The DLC releases, certain playlists are restricted, then eventually the DLC becomes free. And if you can't make it free, then at least heavily discount it before you release another map pack. I find it ridiculous that some of Halo 3's map packs still have a price tag to this day. And Reach too. EDIT: Shitake, this is an old thread.

Remember when you could play Halo for hours on end having a fun time and not being frustrated?
-
This would make sense and all, and worked in Halo 3, but after that, honestly, the DLC's were crap and not even worth playing, and nobody played them anyway. Hence why I didn't download any of the DLCs for Halo 4 yet. I'm not going to put money down on something that doesn't go to use, that the community won't play, and the dev team won't focus on after the next batch of DLC rolls out.

Edited by ROFL Wolf1254: 7/19/2013 3:10:51 PMHalo 3 DLC was definitely worth it. Halo Reach was alright, I liked the Anniversary and Defiant packs. Halo 4 spent too much time on the canon back story, and less time on the actual fun aspect of the map.

Edited by Gaara444: 7/18/2013 9:15:41 PM>You will NEVER get a match made game of Invasion on Breakpoint ever again. Feels bad man.... This is absolute horse shit. OP knows whats up, Halo 3 still has the Team Mythic playlist up and it has a 0 population (I doubt it's actually 0, I'm sure there's a dedicated group of Mythic lovers in there). DLC restrictions were better because it forced people to get the maps and let the people who bought the maps PLAY on them like you're supposed to. However, back then people didn't get the maps because of the DLC restrictions, people got the maps cause they were GOOD maps. If 343i put DLC restrictions on Halo 4 and I didn't have the map pack pass, I probably wouldn't waste money on the maps cause they were just God awful. I'm not even getting the new DLC, Halo 4 is dead to me.

I LOVE TO WASTE MONEY! I LOVE HAVING EXCLUSIVE CONTENT THAT I WON'T GIVE 2 PIECES OF TURDS ABOUT IN 3 YEARS WHEN THE NEW HALO GAME IS ANNOUNCED! I LOVE THROWING MONEY AT EVERYTHING THAT GIVES ME NOSTALGIA BECAUSE #YOLO420, I LOVE HAVING TO WASTE 1600 NONEXISTENT POINTS THAT ARE ACTUALLY 20$ AT SOMETHING MICROSOFT CAN AGREE IS MINE OR ISN'T AT TOTAL WHIM! I LOVE SPENDING TIME WITH MAPS I DON'T WATCH VIDEO REPLAYS IN, I DON'T FORGE OR PLAY WITH OTHER PEOPLE BECAUSE ALL I EVER DO IS HANG AROUND THE SAME CIRCLE OF HALO NERDS FOREVER UNTIL THE END OF TIME! I WANT OTHER PEOPLE TO DO THE SAME BECAUSE 1ST WORLD PROBLEMS. WHO REMEMBER? PEPPERIDGE -blam!-ING FARMS REMEMBERS!

This is why paid DLC for multiplayer games is a bad thing. It alienates the part of the population that didn't buy the DLC for whatever reason if the devs incorporates the new elements into existing playlists and if the devs don't do that the people that did pay for it complain about DLC-only playlists. Mass Effect 3 had it right. The DLC was free and everyone had all the new maps and characters so the whole population remained intact while new content was added.
-
Remember back in Halo 2 how the DLC became free after a year. Yea that never happened again.
-
Gotta love Pepperidge Farm
-
DLC restrictions are terrible... DLC SHOULD BE FREE. At least map DLC. I don't care if they charge for armor and other things that don't impact the game but map dlc shouldn't be something we have the option of getting. Give everyone that bought the game the maps so we can all play and keep the population up. Players get turned away from games because of DLC and DLC restrictions. Free DLC brings players in. Don't call me cheap either as I have every map DLC from each Halo game. Bungie had the perfect system with Halo 2 DLC delivery.
-
If they did that for reach and halo 4, only the people with season passes would actually play, if they still play the game.
-
Remember when you needed all the DLC to play on most playlists?
Why is that a good thing?
-
That's because I bet you Halo 3 got way more DLC sales than Halo 4 and Reach did. You need to look at how many people bought your game, and how many people bought your DLC. In Halo 3 the two numbers were a lot closer than in Halo 4 or Reach.
-
DLC is an optional purchase, not mandatory.
-
Why should I waste money on terrible maps?
-
Yeah. It was awful and ruined Halo 3. I'm glad they smartened up and took that archaic system out of effect by Reach, although it took even longer for join in progress to be implemented, and the scope-trap is still in. But at least over ten years of Halo some improvements have been made, even if it takes a long time.
-
Dat hashtag.
-
I can't remember the last time I've played a matchmade game on a Noble map.
-
It was better when there were DLC restrictions, because then a-lot more people actually had to buy it. I remember all the DLC maps in Halo 3 but don't remember any from Reach.
