We told you not too long ago that both Sony and Microsoft had officially priced their respective PS4 and Xbox One games at $60, the same retail price as current software titles for the PS3 and Xbox One. At the time, doubts started to appear after first-party, not third-party games were only mentioned frequently. Now we know the real reason for this, as EA has now confirmed their PS4 and Xbox One prices and it looks like you are going to have to pay more for their games.
GAME has confirmed that EA has already set their PS4 and Xbox One RRP price with them, as their games will have a full retail price of £54.99. This means that you could be paying £55 for the likes of Battlefield 4 and FIFA 14 when the consoles launch, which is obviously a price that many of you will feel is simply too high in today’s economic climate.
Also bear in mind that if EA are increasing their retail prices in the UK, it also means that they are almost certain to do it in the US as well. £55 translates to around $80, but it is slightly ridiculous to think that EA would have the guts to charge consumers $80 for PS4 and Xbox One games in the US when Sony and Microsoft will be charging $60 for their first-party games.
Sons of bitches. I cannot believe EA has the audacity to try and pull this crap. I don't think I'll be buying any more EA games at that price.
What really bothers me is, what if they need to do this? What if their games really do cost so much to make, that they have to charge this much to keep making a profit?
If that is the case, this industry really needs a crash. A crash wouldn't kill gaming, only disinterest could do that, but it would at least take all of these bloated and greedy publishers out of the picture.
Thoughts? Sorry if cOLD.

lol EA wants to charge $20 more then anyone else for games? guess who is going to lose a shit ton of money because of that greed.
-
Everybody do what we did with the X1. Protest, refuse to buy their shit. They'll change when a lack of money starts rolling in.
-
You get less of a game for more money
-
Well then, guess what kind of games I will not be buying?
-
I would love to see it crash. It would make my dreams come true to see developers like Id Software, Valve, Bungie, Black Isle, and many others like them be at the top with complete creative control.

Edited by Verachi: 7/17/2013 6:35:05 PMIf they do that then I'll only buy used EA games. I'm pretty sure this only affect the UK.
-
80 bucks for a game and probably 50 dollars of DLC will come out right after... yeah that totally looks appealing to the middle class gamer.
-
No more online passes guys, we're just going to charge more for our games up front. Lol.
-
I was expecting $100
-
Eighty bucks?! That's insane!
-
I'm sorry if I sound callous, but I'll never pay $80 for a video game. That is absurdly expensive. $60 is hard enough for me to fork over. The only games I've bought new were games by Bungie. I'd rather wait for the price of a used copy to drop.
-
55 quid? OMG
-
I say wait until we see actual pricing without the variations of currency exchange.
-
Well I can miss Battlefront.
-
So you're telling me that EA is potentially going to want people to spend an extra $20 on copy and paste games? All while people are complaining that these copy and paste sports games should be $20 cheaper or just receive roster updates? LOL FAIL.
-
They should just focus on incentives to buy digital, they will make a lot more money that way.
-
EA is just jelly that they cannot compete with Bungie Master Race. So they figure that bathing in more cash would wash their depression away.
-
It's worth mentioning that on release, MW3 and Blacks Ops II were both £55 RRP, but actually cost £49.99. RRP means nothing. It's RRP for a reason - recommended.

I rarely buy EA games, but dammit they have a good damn line up of games that I'm seriously considering buying. Battlefront, BF4.
-
EA may be greedy, but they're marketing department isn't stupid. They've brought success to many good games in the past. I doubt they will follow through this, especially if they want to beat out competition like Call of Duty and the likes of other first party games. I'm not getting a next gen console anyway, but I don't see EA charging so much unless they can find a way to rationalize the pricing that customers accept.
-
They puff up their chests, but I doubt they'll actually do anything. Say CoD's selling for $60 while Battlefield is priced at $80. Comparable games in many respects, more people would jump on the CoD wagon. Surely EA realizes this.
