How long does it take for graphics cards to be outdated?

I know computers get outdated fast, but I am building my first gaming PC and I'm shelling out 200 bucks for a Nvidia GTX 660. It was released last year, but these graphics cards are expensive, will I have to spend another 200 bucks next year? EDIT: You guys are telling me it will last me about 3-4 years, which is pretty good. When I decide to upgrade my GPU in 4 years, will I only need to upgrade the graphics card and maybe RAM? Or will I need to get some more parts? Because I would be fine upgrading my PC every couple of years as long as it's only a couple parts I'm upgrading.

  • It depends on what you can be happy with. I have a GTX580 and there are some games I cant play on max (DX11) but I am still happy with the proformance. For higher end cards I would suspect you could go 4-5 years even more if you dont mind the lower graphic settings. For lower cards I would guess 3-4 years. You dont need to buy a new card every year.
