The Awoken
I'm very curious about Bungie's new race, especially that they've released almost nothing about it. What are your opinions?

I don't know if anyone has answered your question with the right answer or not, yet but this was taken from the GameInformer article on Destiny. " The Awoken also survived the Collapse, but were forever changed; they appear otherworldly and aloof."

8 RepliesSo awoken are just that awoken they are a sub species that was put to sleep for colonization of a deeper solar system. But now have been awoken to help fight the darkness. Let's then go one further and say they are criminals, they committed crimes and were put to sleep (As seen in a little bit of the awoken in the clip he's an outlaw.) maybe as a byproduct of the freezing process they became white/blue/grey. I would love to say why they are a different species or that they are, but I can't. They could be relics of an old war (which I doubt as that's exo) or from the future. It's way to early to call.

The awoken. What if the awoken were the first humans that lived on earth and traveled to another solar system and were stranded. It took generations for them to get back to the point that they were at when they left. In the process the were altered on the genetic level.

1 ReplyI think the clue is in the title. The awoken are not Aliens or representatives of the traveller. They are humans who were 'awoken' in the collapse, effected somehow by the crazy space magic of the traveller.

1 ReplyI know I for one have been contemplating the story of these Awoken. Unlike the EXO, who have had their story explained to us, I do agree with some of the above posts that perhaps the Awoken's story is going to be told through exploration and discovery of the world. But to do some speculating, Awoken are supposedly Aliens of some kind, and I believe that even that is not confirmed, but their personality is generally Aloof and pretentious. Perhaps the Awoken, were/are A) Survivors, originally humans that had been exposed to much to the Travelers technology, AKA when it sacrificed itself to save mankind at the end of the Golden Age. Or B) From both their name and their Aloof appearance, could it be that they were a race of beings from our solar system that dates back to before us, and had suffered a similar fate? And those that survived have since Awoken? Perhaps they created the Traveler and its sacrifice trigged their awakening. Either way I do look forward to hearing more about it them and finding their true origins.

Probably something to do with reincarnation. Saw a thread on here a while back comparing enemies characters etc with egyptian folklore among many other thing.

I love the idea for this race, and I might play as an Awoken. I hope the story behind them is expanded upon. I also hope that it's a good story, and not just an excuse to have blue people in the game.

I'm pretty sure the mystery of this race will be a part of the storyline, for us to discover.
